Hey Everybody! There has been a lot of good talk in our community about the Ross Procedure. As you may know, I had the Ross performed nearly 20 years ago after I received a surprise diagnosis of aortic valve stenosis and regurgitation. Since the Ross Procedure, I am thankful to share that I have not needed a re-operation and I do not take blood thinners.

To educate patients and increase awareness to the Ross Procedure, I am hosting a live webinar with Dr. Vaughn Starnes, my surgeon, and Dr. Craig Baker this Thursday, November 13, at 6pm EST.

As many of you know... Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. The turkey. The stuffing. The cranberries. The pumpkin pie. Family. Friends. And, most importantly, the dedicated time to reflect on all there is to be thankful for.

As we get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, I am reminded of a quote from Jefferson Bethke who wrote, “Thankfulness is the quickest path to joy.”

The gray background notifications indicate that you have not clicked on them yet. They do not indicate whether or not you have responded to them. Once you click the gray background notifications, they turn white.

Robert Miller Thanks for the clarification but that's not how I understand it worked. There is that red or gray heart, depending on the status. When you already looked at all the messages that you responded to and that someone else later responded to, then the heart is gray (nothing new to posts you responded to). If you responded to a message and someone else later on also responded but you didn't read it yet, then the heart turns red and on the right side is the number of unread messages. Then you can click on the heart, it shows a list only with messages to which you responded. The ones with a white background are the ones you already looked at the latest response from others. The ones with the gray background are the ones you responded to but didn't read the latest post from other members. That's how I thought this is working.

And thanks for looking into the "My Story" posts. Some might want to read them but I don't so if I can filter them all out via a setting, that would be awesome. If not, I just keep skipping over them.

It shows the same number of messages/hearts next to the right side of "News". At least, the messages that I didn't read yet do show up with a light gray background rather than a white background for the messages I read. So no big deal but of course it would be nice if that's fixed.

For now I just skip all message that start with anything like "Check out...", quotes, etc Just some feedback. All in all, this is about the best forum for heart surgeries... Great job!!!

Adam Pick Thanks for the updates everybody. Much appreciated. I am most concerned if you are seeing "Firewall" notices that do not let you access the site. We recently implemented new firewall systems to minimize potential spam from countries that are known to deploy malicious activities. Have you seen any notices saying, "You cannot access the site"?

Hey Everybody!

During the past 3 weeks, our wonderful programming team has implemented over 100 changes to the code that powers the Community section at HeartValveSurgery.com.

The main goal of these updates was to accelerate the speed that any given page in the Community section loads on phone, tablet, laptop and/or desktop. We noticed, over the past few months, that our page speeds were getting slow because of all the features and the posts in the Community.

While we have a few more updates to go, I am happy to report that we have been able to decrease page load times up to 70% in some instances. Woo-Hoo!!!!

This required the development and implementation of many database enhancements and new strategies for ensuring the "Notifications" feature was optimized.

In addition to speeding up the website, we also spent a good amount of time optimizing several other features across the Community including faster YouTube playback capabilities, article/URL graph and meta data recognition, and more.

Again, we have a few more updates to complete. That said, if you are noticing anything that is not working correctly, please be patient with us as we complete the Community update.

As always, thanks for your extraordinary support of each other! I am so thankful to be a part of the wonderful community of people.

Hi everybody! Thanks to Daneen and Ana, we learned that for people using tablets (e.g. iPads) there was an unexpected bug with the notification counter in the top navigation during a recent website update. That said we have found and fixed that issue.

However, in doing further testing, we found a few other bugs with the top navigation in tablet viewports. That said, we we are working now to correct those minor issues. Fyi, these issues typically do not impact the overall functioning of the website. Thanks for your patience as our programmers resolve these minor issues. Best, Adam
