Hey everybody! With all the new features at the website, I wanted you to know that tonight -- at 8pm EST -- we are going to upgrade our servers. The system should only be down for 30 minutes. Thanks for your patience! Adam
Hi everybody! With the relaunch of our website, we are adding several new features to our community -- that you requested. Fyi, many of you asked me to create a simple way to be notified if any posts were made to your Journal, Guestbook or Photos sections. You also asked to be notified if you had a new Follower.
Well... I am very excited to share with you that we have built and just launched a new "Notification Dashboard" at our community. Now, when you log in to the website, our system will let you know if any activity has occurred on your account.
In the top-right navigation (near your name), you will see a red heart if you have new notification. You will also see a number letting you know how many notifications you have (see my latest picture below).
Then, when you click on the red heart, a dashboard will display letting you know what notifications you have -- and from who.
Also, the background color of the notification indicates whether or not you have viewed the post yet. If the background color is gray, you have not viewed the post. If the background color is white, you have already viewed the post.
You can also scroll through all of the notifications if you like.
I am VERY, VERY, VERY hopeful this Notification Dashboard will further enhance your connections with the other members of our community. So you know, you will still receive email notifications if you post or get a response to a Guestbook.
Lastly... Stay tuned. Tomorrow, we are going to announce another new feature that many of you requested.
The Heart Valve Summit just started in Chicago. The room is packed!
At Mary's Request... Comments Editing Now Working!
Journal posted on September 11, 2014
Good news. We are continuing to roll-out new features at our community that were requested by our patients, their family members and friends. That said, in an earlier post, Mary requested that we make each comment (to a journal or guestbook entry) edit-able after posting.
Well... As you may have just noticed, all comments -- made by logged in members -- now have a little, gray triangle at the top right side of their post. Simply click that triangle to either edit or delete your comment. See the new picture I just posted below.
Stay tuned. More features are about to be announced shortly. Thanks for the suggestion Mary!
Hi Everybody -- Following the relaunch of the website, I received some great feedback about the functionality of this community. In particular, several of you -- including Terrie, Ginger and Karen -- asked that we re-implement the 'Journal Post Roll'. As you might remember, this feature enabled you to see a chronological listing of all patient journals posted.
Good news!!! Today, we added that feature right into the patient news feed. Now, at the top of the news feed page, you will see a link that says, "See Newest Patient Journals". When you click that link, you will see the most recent journals posted by our community members. And, ready for this... You don't need to click on page-after-page-after-page of journals. Now, all patient journals will be displayed for you automatically when you scroll down the page!!!
I hope this new/old feature helps you stay in touch and connected your fellow patients, friends, family and caregivers.
Susan asked me to create a confirmation notification when following patients. We just activated this great idea! Yeah!
Journal & Guestbook Posts Speed Up!!!
Journal posted on September 7, 2014
In case you have yet to notice, we implemented a new program earlier today which greatly speeds up the time it takes for you to post a new journal or guestbook note. If you have yet to try it, go ahead and test it out. Keep on tickin! Adam
Thanks For The Feedback! Requested Changes Coming!
Journal posted on September 6, 2014
Thanks for the feedback everybody on the new website! As I have shared with you, we are continuing to make several changes to enhance the ability of our patients and caregivers to connect with and learn from each other.
Some of the immediate adjustments will address requests made by Karen, Terrie and Ginger. For example, we should have the Guestbook response notifications re-activated early this week. We are also working on a "Journal Blog Roll" feature that will enable you to chronologically follow journal posts of our community members -- identical to the old format. We are also creating a new process to accelerate the time it takes to post a journal or a guestbook. In addition, we will implement a new process to decrease the amount of duplicate entries.
Fyi, there are more changes coming after these including a complete site wide edit capability -- across all comments -- that was requested by Mary.
Again... Thanks for your feedback and your patience as we continue to enhance the website. We are moving as fast as possible to educate and empower each member of this community -- from diagnosis to recovery.
Great news everybody! In case you haven't noticed yet... There is no longer any need to sign your comments. Now, when logged in users add comments to journals, guestbooks or photos, your name and a link to your journal will automatically appear next to your post!
Thanks so much for this great idea -- Karen, Terrie and Olga -- and your patience as we implemented this new feature.
I am very excited to share that all of your guestbook responses -- to your family, friends and fellow patients -- have been restored following our site relaunch! Thanks for your patience as we continue to adjust our new website!
Keep on tickin,
Adam Pick (patient & website founder)
In response to Mary's question about deleting (or editing) a post, there is a "Drop Down Triangle" in the top-right section of each journal post. Simply click that gray triangle and you will be presented with an option to delete or edit a post. Adam

Hi everybody, I wanted to thank you again for your patience as we continue to relaunch the website. Over the past few days, I have received some great feedback from our community regarding the features of the new community. That said, I am now working with our programming team to make several adjustments to further enhance your experience at the site. Again, thanks for your patience through this process.
Keep on tickin!

Holy Moly Is Momentum Building at Heart Valve Journals!!!
Journal posted on August 29, 2010
I continue to shake my head at the continued expansion of Heart Valve Journals over the past few months.
This section of the website continues to grow and grow and grow and grow -- faster than I ever expected.
Thanks to everybody for sharing their thoughts, ideas, advice and, at times, prayers with one another.
As I tell many people, when I need visible evidence of love... I click on your journals and guestbooks. It is really inspiring to see all of the caring interactions among patients and caregivers within this global community.
Again, thank you!
Keep on tickin!

All... During the past 24 hours, my programmer has done an excellent job uploading several new features and enhancements to Heart Valve Journals.
You will not notice some of these enhancements as they positively impact the core code of the website.
But, you will notice several new features in the website. Those enhancements include:
* An expanded user control panel.
* The abilty to track the friends and family who subscribe to your journal.
* On page profile changes (passwords, picture, etc.)
* A new search function that enables you to search all journals by patient name and by content.
Thanks for being patient as we uploaded the website. In the very near future, this website will transition from beta to a soft launch. At that time, I believe several new users will start using Heart Valve Journals during their surgical experience.
