Jennifer Fuller There is a “target heart rate” for exercise. It’s based on your sex, age, resting rate rate, goals for exercise, etc. My PT gave me a target of 100 to 120. So when I’m exercising, I check my heart rate (I’m using a fit bit, but there are other options) to make sure I’m working hard enough to make progress, but not so hard that I’m putting too much stress on my heart.

Karen Hanna I would definately mention this to your cardiologist. It is not abnormal after heart surgery. Pre-mitral valve repair surgery my heart rate was around 64bpm. Post surgery it sat around 118-125. Your heart needs time to heal and beating fast does not help. My doctor put me on low dose Matroprolol and Corlanor. Heart rate has settled to around 74bpm. As you exercise more efficiently your heart rate should start to settle and meds can be adjusted.
Good evening 16 days post aortic valve replacement. The breathing is enhanced significantly
The cough is disappeared
The body temperature is normal
The fatigue is disappeared
But, immediately after 4000 meters walking , the BP was 123/93 and heart beat is 110
after 10 minutes relaxation , the blood pressure is 111/87. is it normal ?
Noting that , i am taking Concor 5 mg daily

Hi All
After i being waiting for 5 years, finally i did it . I replaced my Bicuspid Aortic Valve with On-X valve on 22-10-2023 . The surgery was minimally-invassive process. i left the hospital yesterday.
but i have some questions in mind:
when i waked and found i am in the ICU, i feelt with pain in back and shoulder i could not sleep 3 nights as a result of that. I was fighting to take a deep breathing but i could not. The breathing was very little and i felt out of breathing.
i daily feeling with some fever in the body. Hard to take a breathing normally, its look like a heavy thing on my chest.
the doctor told me this is normal and you should walk . But, when i am walking 5 minutes i am feeling very tired with less breathing with very high sweeting . Before the surgery and while the ARV was severe,i was not feeling with any difficulties in breathing.
my big problem now with sleeping, when i am trying to sleep on my back, i could not breathing normally, so i am trying to sleep on chair
please anybody here explain his experience with heart valve replacement and side effects ?

Leti Tenner Hi Mohammed, congratulations and welcome home!
I was in a great deal of pain, especially back and shoulder pain, which I wasn't expecting. I learned the back pain resulted from being on my back during surgery on a metal table with my arms extended outward (like a "T") for several hours. The pain was so intense I couldn't sleep in the hospital bed, but instead slept in the recliner chair each night. The hospital provided me with muscle relaxant to help with the back pain. I'm 4 weeks post-op and I'm still sleeping upright in a recliner due to back discomfort.
Regarding breathing, a nurse in the ICU would tell me every hour or so, to make sure I'm breathing. She said I need to re-train my body to take deep breaths. I was so tense I found myself holding my breath or breathing rapidly. In any case, I found it difficult to breathe (deep breaths) post-op and I had to concentrate and make breathing intentional.
You're only a few days post-op and doing well. Walk for as long as your body permits -- even if it's only 5 minutes. Hopefully, you'll notice small improvements each day.

Marie Myers Choice of valve is a complex question with many factors. Generally, the younger the patient, either a repair, a Ross procedure, or a mechanical valve are good choices. If a mechanical valve is chosen, the Ony-X valve is a good choice, since it allows for lower levels of anticoagulation. For a tissue valve, there are several different brands, and sometimes different hospitals/surgeons make the choice for you. My tissue valve is an Edwards Magna Ease . I hope this helps !
Sean Adkins I have been looking at the On-X valve and the Edwards Inspiris Resilia

Hi All So sorry for delay in updating with you all. I made a call with Dr. Hiroo Takayama to ask him about the bicusbid leaky valve repairing; he confirmed that the there is no guarantee for long lasting repair for such valve, except tricuspid valve. He recommend me to go through replacing with mechanical one. i did an echo test and the results as shown below, and actually the results are not happy with. I took 5 years searching and researching (since 2018) to decide which surgery will be an option : replacement or repairing valve. Then i finally decided to go through mechanical valve option . Please i need the reflection from those who were performed valve replacement:-
1- Which valve is better 2- How your life style is being after surgery; can you do running ,walking and heavy duties? 3- What about blood thinning? daily or weekly dosages?
4- Finally, anybody here has performed his surgery in India? which Dr. you recommend ?
Thanks in advance for all participants

Klara Čičić Hi Mohammed, my valve was repaired but I had to choose before surgery just in case and I would've gone with mechanical valve because of my young age. I didn't think very much about the type of valve, I just had faith in the doctor and in the institution that they will put the best one possible if needed. (Maybe naively haha). I've read they are all durable and no big differences. I've heart that On-x one has lower INR targets so that means a little less warfarin, but please check. The thing that worried me the most is the ticking (you can hear them tick). Because I am very skinny and I sleep very lightly. But I hear that it is manageable and your brain gets used to it. Maybe someone with a mechanical valve can chime in!

Hi all Yesterday, i have been at heart center to perform TEE test for an insight into the valve structure and function clearly. But the doctor performed Echocardiogram rather that TEE and he said Echo is enough and you do not need to perform TEE. Knowing that, i performed 12 Echo test and non of these has similar results, therefore, i asked the doctors to go through TEE rather than Echo, specifically, i have been infected with Covid-19 inflammation on 2021 ,and as a result the bicuspid valve leak became severe. While the cardiologist finished the Echo report yesterday, i read it and had felt there is a problem. The LVIDd size was 7.6 cm while the earlier Echo report (before month ago) indicated that the LVIDd size was 6.1 cm. Does TEE able to give more accurate results than Echo ?
