well my bovine heart valve is doing very good i had a hard time making up my mind which valve to go with but my surgion said he was to use a bovine valve and i was ok with that now after it was done i am very happy with my decision i know it is a hard decision to make but i would do a lot of reading up on the valves so you know which one will suit you best sometimes the dr may know best because he has done so many of the ohs so read and pray about it the lord will help you and you will make it thru this journey you are not alone we are hear to help i was operated on 8/19/2014 and i am doing fine as far as having another surgery the next time i hope for a TAVRwith no cutting my prayers and best wishes to you all waiting for surgery and in recovery and try cardio rehab after surgery it really helps love your friend and heart patient steven a husted ((popeye))

wow i am getting pretty tired of PT for my shoulder i hope i never have to have roto cuff surgery again it feels like it will never get better heart surgery was easy compared to this they say some heal fast in 6 months or so and others it may take up to 2 years i hope mine is less than 2 years but they say mine was a major tear in my rotator cuff i guess i will have to grin and bear it ha ha had my shoulder surgery on july 14 time will tell it is getting better but it is taking so long thanks for listening (popeye)

i have wrote about this before but it bears repeating if you are scard of open heart surgery and you live alone with out much help or no help at all there is help check with your doctor before surgery and let them know you live alone with no help my doctor sent me to a rehab hospital for two weeks after my surgery and then he had a visiting nurse and therapist visit me twice a week for 4 weeks after that i started cardio rehab so it can be done even if you live alone there is help out there you just have to ask for it let your situation be know i know i was very grateful for all the help i got from every one and adam and this site you can make this journey with the help of all your friends here at heart valve surgery . com love you all your heart brother steven a husted (popeye)

Bob Fessler Good luck with your surgery popeye. My brother-in-law had a similar surgery 3 months ago. The only pain he had was while doing rehab afterwards. You know how they can push you to do more for your own good. I wouldn't stress out too much about the surgery itself. Not being able to drive is no fun either. Take care.

Steven A Husted thank you all for your prayers it really helps alot i had another friend tell me today that the surgery was not that bad but the rehab aftersurgery was the painful part but i am one who will tell them so when they try to push to hard and fast i will just say no and stop i know better than they do what my body can stan as far as pain i hope i dont have to get ruff with them but sometimes you have to let them know what you can and cannot do i know i had one in cardio rehab that tried to push me and i just told her no and she stopped pushing me so hard well i hope and pray it all goes well your friend (popeye)

i had therapy and it did not work so now i will have surgery on july 14 2017 on my right shoulder and hope it will fix my shoulder the MRI showed several tears in my right rotator cuff i hope i will still be able to write with my right hand they will take care of some bone spures also on my shoulder at the same time

MARIE PICUN My husband had the surgery. They did the micro surgery, had little holes in his shoulder then went in and fix him. Went in the morning, was home in early evening. If you can get the ice machine from your surgeon, I would recommend it. The strap goes around your shoulder were the ice stays, and the cooler is on the floor. Help him a lot for the pain

what a blessing this site is to heart patients i love to read all of the posts from the different ones who have had different problems before and after surgery it is a great source of information and help to us all i was so scared before surgery and the patients on this site really helped me thru this ohs journey and after the surgery i was really surprised that it was not as bad as i thought it would be there are ups and downs but it is very manageble i want to give adam pick another thank you for his work and book thank you adam and god bless

i was so scared of ohs i had heard of people who had there heart replaced and not lasting very long after surgery but i had not heard about them replacing a valve in your heart i thought this would be more dangerous so i started to research and read about patients who had ohs for valve replacement and found this site wow what a difference it made reading about all these patients who had this surgery done and some of them more than once and survived some for years it really helped me with my fear of ohs and gave me the courage to go thru this journey thank you lord for seeing me thru it was really not that bad and now i have maybe another 20+years amen so if you are scared like i was research like i did and the lord will see you thru it also your heart brother steve (popeye)

the thoughts of a second operation make me wonder how long this valve will last i know this ohs was not that bad but will it be worse the second time around i know this operation was a whole lot better than my other two major surgeries but they were 45 years ago and i hope if this valve lasts 20 years they will have a painless ohs with out cutting or scars one can hope and pray

Just to let you know, going through OHS again (I did it 3 times before TAVR was invented) is a different feeling than the first time because you know what to expect (which can be good and bad lol). It's no worse than the first time, maybe even easier because you know it can be done. You've proven it to yourself already. Nothing to worry about really 💛. Your new valve will last a long time anyway so just stay HEALTHY and enjoy the freedoms of your tissue valve 😊.

Don Catoe I am not experienced at this as Cathleen, but I have been giving this a lot of thought. I have a bovine aortic valve they say has the potential for lasting 20 years. I think that may depend on my lifestyle changes. I am actually horrified at the thought of eating French fries and burgers since my surgery. My cow valve may go on strike and start calcifying again! Did you make a lot of lifestyle changes??

Phyllis Petersen My program is a little different. I have cardio on one machine (started with 12 minutes, up to 25 min now), then I do 2 sets of 4 resistance exercises. I'm just hoping I can still afford it in January when I have to start paying copays again. They check BP before, close to the end of the cardio, and again after cool down. They seem to tailor the programs carefully to each person's abilities and health.

Phyllis Petersen They kicked my butt today! When I was told only 20 minutes for cardio, I started to question it. Then I found out that they were pushing me up from 2.8 to 3.2 mph and from 2% grade to 3% grade. I had just had the resistance training up to 13 reps from 10 reps on Friday. By the end of the program today, I felt pushed to the max. A nice breakfast with friends and an afternoon nap helped.

Phyllis Petersen I don't mind being pushed. If it gets to be too much, I can tell them and they'll ease up. My muscles are really what's holding me back a bit, but it hasn't reached a point I can't do it yet. I figure the harder I work at rehab, the better I'll get and sooner.
