Steven A Husted  hi Marie i was first told in jan. 2014 that i had a heart murmer i never knew i had and then my cardiologist told me i had severe aortic stenosis and needed a aortic valve replaced in my heart which scared me to death and i wanted to put it off as long as i could i waited a month and had my cath done and my breathing got worse every day so in aug, 2014 i had another app. with my cardiologist and told him my breathing had got worse and he sent me to the hospital right away and three days later i had a new heart valve so i would not wait let your body tell you when to have it done check out some of my other posts

Wanda Mroz  I've been in phase 3 for months and I love it. When I have no drama or can manage I go 3x a week. Makes me feel better!💞

Steven A Husted  yes i have been in phase 3 for almost 2 years and i enjoy it very much i have a friend who has been in phase 3 for 23 years and he enjoys it also i think you will enjoy it it is good exercise and you have someone watching you all the time if you should have any trouble

Susan Lyons  What are the phases of rehab? I have been told that my insurance will cover 36 visits to rehab. Must be expensive to go for years.

Steven A Husted  yes insurance and medicare only covers 36 visits you have to pay for phase 3 which is $60 a month and a discount if you pay for the year and it covers your exercise and a heart monitor once a month and bp and heart rate each visit plus a nurse in case you need one that is what makes it better than a gym membership i really enjoy phase 3 of cardio rehab

Wanda Mroz  I pay $135 for 3 months... less for six months or a year. Get bp and hr monitored before and after exercise and they are there all the time to help.

Steven A Husted  yes it does make me feel better going to cardio rehab some states the price is a little different than what i stated and like Wanda said they check your bp and hr before and after each exercise and they are there all the time to help

Steven A Husted  thank you so much Catie B for your post on my guestbook yes it is hard going thru this journey on your own but it is very possible as i said in my post i was scared to death of open heart surgery but as i started to read stories on this site and adams book it gave me confidence and the prayers of the friends i made on this site gave me a peace i could do this with god's help and he would see me thru this journey by my self but i had alot of help from the doctors and nurses and therapists so i did not have many family and friends to help me thru this journey i did have alot of new friends that were there to help me thru all the way and still do to this very day there were the doctors who did a great operation then there were the nurses who helped me get out of bed and walk then there were the nurses and therapists who helped me get my strenth back and the nurses and therapists who visited me at home and made sure i could do for myself at home then there was cardio rehab to get me into a exercise mode to keep me active and to keep my heart in good shape and because of that i am in cardio rehab phase 3 today and the beat goes on as far as being alone in the hospital i looked at it as a way to make alot of new friends you want to try to do what they tell you but you also want to listen to your own body if you have pain let them know and they will give you meds for it but dont over do it they may try to push you to walk and get you moving this is good but dont over do it in rehab you need to take your time time is a healer and you have been thru a major operation best wishes and prayers for you my heart sister if you want any more info just ask shusted333@aol.com ps i love your dog i had two just like that

Catie B  Steve, thanks a million for your reply. Though it is a very big mountain to climb, it is necessary. It sounds like you had all the people and resources you needed each step of the way. This group here really is supportive and encouraging. I am taking heart, knowing with the help of the medical folks, friends here, and the Lord, that you have had a strong recovery. So I can too. I appreciate hearing of your working to get better and of your resilience.
My dog is a little sweetheart. Pets are so much company!
Keep taking care of you. I'm glad you're still in cardio rehab! And thanks so much again!

Steven A Husted  HI STEVE PHASE 3 IS A COUNTINUE OF PHASE 2 FOR AS LONG AS YOU LIKE ONE GUY IN PHASE 3 WITH ME HAS BEEN COMING FOR 22 YEARS THE DIFFERENCE IS YOU DONT HOOK UP TO A MONITOR EVERY VISIT JUST ONCE A MONTH AND IF YOU HAVE DIABETES ALSO TEST ONCE A MONTH OTHER THAN THAT MY CARDIO REHAB IS 15 MIN. WARM UP AND 15 MIN. ON ONE MACHINE THEN SWITCH IF I WANT TO ANOTHER MACHINE FOR 15 MIN. THEN A 15 MIN. COOL DOWN BUT THAT IS PHASE 3 A WARM UP AND 30 MIN. EXERCISE AND COOL DOWN AND IT DOES HELP KEEP YOUR HEART IN SHAPE THEY HAVE PROGRAMS IF YOU WANT TO EXERCISE LONGER BUT THAT IS PHASE 3 OF CARDIO REHAB AS FAR AS I KNOW YOUR HEART BROTHER STEVE (POPEYE)

Steven A Husted  PLUS YOU HAVE A NURSE AND THERAPIST THERE TO WATCH YOU AND KEEP AN EYE ON YOU IF YOU NEED ANY HELP IF YOU WENT TO A GYM ON YOUR OWN YOU WOULD NOT HAVE A NURSE OR THERAPIST TO KEEP AN EYE ON YOU IF YOU WERE TO HAVE ANY HEART TROUBLE THAT WOULD BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DOING REHAB ON YOUR OWN STEVE (POPEYE)

Autumn Griffin  I found my dads book from the Great Lakes training center and of course you and my dad weren't in the same company. Which I didn't really think you would have but I was curious. 😀

Steven A Husted  i am not sure but i may have been in company 304 i had a picture of me standing in front of my barracks with my company flag but i cant find it boy i wish i could go back to that time again alot of memories my dad was in the army and air core and navy in WWll i miss family mom dad and now my brother in nurseing home with parkison and demmencia but i have found a new family in this community love you all very much your heart brother steve (popeye)

Autumn Griffin  That is so nice. I have lost both my parents too. 17 years for my Mom and 20 years for my Dad. I really wish I had one of them to be with me through this but it is nice to be part of this wonderful group of people.

Steven A Husted  yes this community saved my life after my doctor told me the news i was going to put it off as long as possible but after reading adams book and the journals here i decided to go ahead with the ohs and now i am glad i did who knows what might have happened if i had put it off my breathing had gotten worse and i felt weak so i am glad i did it and it was not as bad as i thought it would be if i really had to do it again this time i would not be afraid anymore steve (popeye)

Jean Raber  Yes, info on here and in Adam's book is helpful. I'm still not 100 percent sure I'll have the surgery, but whatever I decide, I'm going in with my eyes open. I appreciate the people on here willing to talk about their experiences.

Steven A Husted  hi karen thanks i am doing pretty good just have a little soreness in my incision once in awhile but i am still enjoying phase 3 of cardio rehab have made new friends there and have been to my cardiolgist and he has said i am doing great so i am coming up on my 1 year out aug. 19 boy time flyes your heart brother steve (popeye)
