My name is Basil Griffith. I’m a 36 year old father of 2 perfect children. I was diagnosed with a bi cuspid aortic valve in 2003, at the age of 13. It has been life changing but I adapted well when I found out. I go in for yearly check ups to monitor my heart and everything is always good so I never worry much about it. 6 months ago my cardiologist referred me to a thoracic surgeon because my numbers got worse. I have since broken my shoulder and need surgery to repair it. As protocol, they wanted me to get clearance on my heart before I could be put to sleep. My surgeon said it’s time to replace my valve and aneurysm and I am a mess. Even though I’ve been told since I was a kid that this time would eventually come in my life, I’m still scared. I have a heart cath scheduled in 2 weeks and I feel like my world is at a standstill still. I found this place hoping to find some comfort from people who have been where I’m at or are there now. It has been good already just reading other people’s success stories.
