Experience and Outcomes

Cleveland Clinic surgeons performed 4,168 cardiac procedures in 2017 at our main campus, and 4,607 at all of our Northeast Ohio hospitals. We voluntarily report our outcomes to The Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS), which provides national benchmarks for cardiac surgery. Our outcomes continue to set the standard for excellence, as reflected by 3-star ratings in three STS Adult Cardiac Surgery categories, including aortic valve replacement, coronary artery bypass and in procedures that combine both.

Cleveland Clinic performs many procedures that are more complex than those tracked by STS. In fact, within the last reporting period, more than 50 percent of our surgical cases were too complex to be categorized by STS.

We have provided some detail on our outcomes, but invite patients to learn as much as they can about their procedure as well as what they can and should expect. These outcomes are detailed on our website at clevelandclinic.org/e15.
