Experience and Outcomes

Cleveland Clinic’s Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute had 667,272 patient visits and our surgeons performed 5,046 cardiac surgeries in 2021.

As a participant in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) public reporting initiative, Cleveland Clinic is proud to achieve a three-star rating (highest) in the following categories for adult cardiac surgery and the newest rating for Transcatheter Aortic Heart Valve Replacement. These categories include: aortic valve replacement, coronary artery bypass graft surgery, aortic valve replacement plus coronary artery bypass graft surgery, and mitral valve repair or replacement.

Cleveland Clinic performs many procedures that are more complex than those tracked by STS. More than 50% of our adult cardiac surgery cases last year required operations more complex than those rated by STS.
