Experience and Outcomes

Cleveland Clinic surgeons performed 5,294 cardiac procedures in 2019. We voluntarily report our outcomes to The Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS), which provides national benchmarks for cardiac surgery. Our outcomes continue to set the standard for excellence, as reflected by 3-star ratings in all five STS Adult Cardiac Surgery categories, including aortic valve replacement, coronary artery bypass graft surgery, aortic valve replacement plus coronary artery bypass graft surgery, mitral valve repair or replacement, and mitral valve repair or replacement plus coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

Cleveland Clinic performs many procedures that are more complex than those tracked by STS. More than 60% of our adult cardiac surgery cases last year required operations more complex than those rated by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
