It's now 4 1/2 months post-op for me. In January, I had mitral valve replacement at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Unfortunately, there were major complications. My goodness Judy! You have had a hard time! I am praying for your continued recovery and for strength and stamina to continue to return! I have worried like the rest about. A lot happened on your surgery date which made me very concerned about you. So glad to see you are recovering well

You will be in good hands there I am sure. My surgery is in Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC on Wednesday.

Judy, I hope all goes well for you. Did you get a second opinion on replacement vs. repair before deciding to go ahead?

One more thing: my MV was also very calcified, and the surgeon said it was a 50-50 chance of repair vs replacement. He said it could not be determined until he actually saw the valve. Once he was in there during surgery, thankfully he was able to remove the calcifications... Read more.
I did get a second opinion and decided to go with Dr Shekar. We discussed replacement V's repair and he said that he may not be able to repair it because of the calcium build-up, but will be able to make that decision when he operates. I had my pre-op... Read more.
Judy, January 20th is the Big Day for both of us and I'll be cheering for you before the Anesthesiologist puts me out. Best wishes for a smooth surgery and good recovery.

Judy, I purchased the same book 8 yrs ago for my first surgery, and although I did not read it again for my second surgery, I remembered the basic techniques and used them again! It was extremely helpful for me for both surgeries. I wish you all the best for... Read more.
