To mark my 6 months we travelled to Vietnam and walked a hill in Ninh Binh - just outside of Hanoi .
So amazed everyday that my heart ❤️ performs like it did when I was 21 !
Besides the heat , I climbed with ease !
There Is Hope at the end of the Surgical Journey and I hope those of you who are getting ready for surgery , you can take comfort in knowing there is a better future ahead !!!!!

I’ve just completed my three-month check-in with the Adrian Costa Trial Centre.
My new aortic valve is performing exceptionally well, and the early intervention has clearly supported a strong and rapid recovery.
As part of the Easy-AS trial, the aim is to demonstrate that early intervention is the optimal pathway for those diagnosed in childhood and monitored through adulthood.
I feel genuinely privileged to be part of this trial and to benefit from its work.
Marie Myers Great news, and an uplifting report for those in “the waiting room”.
Deena Z Awesome news! Congrats. This trial might be an interesting article or video for HVS.com.

Kimberly Eisenhut David, I'm right there with you. I'm a little over 3 weeks and some days I think I should be doing more, but then remember it's not a race, it's a process and as long as I see progress every week, not every day necessarily, I'm doing well. "Slow and steady wins the race".

Kimberly Eisenhut David, wishing you a day filled with peace and good progress today🫶😊 I skipped some walking my 5 min every hour yesterday to watch some movies with my mother, but I'll be back on track today! I figure we deserve a cheat day once in a while🤪 Finally took a complete shower including washing my hair on my own after 3 weeks! Sore after washing and drying my hair, but I feel accomplished ! Having the right sided thorecotomy and being right handed is a challenge for sure! If I do even a tiny bit more any given day, I really feel it at night when I go up to bed . I wish I had someone here to talk to about right sided mini thorecotomy, as it is different than sternotomy.

David Buchanan It’s called EASY-AS, and it’s focused on people with severe aortic stenosis who don’t yet have symptoms.
Right now, the standard approach is usually “watch and wait” until symptoms show up. This study is testing whether it’s actually better to replace the valve earlier — either with surgery or a transcatheter procedure — before the damage sets in.

Right now, the standard approach is usually “watch and wait” until symptoms show up. This study is testing whether it’s actually better to replace the valve earlier — either with surgery or a transcatheter procedure — before the damage sets in.
They’re looking at things like:
Survival and long-term heart outcomes
Heart failure hospitalisations
Quality of life and independence
How many days people stay well and out of hospital
The trial is running in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Serbia, and will follow almost 3,000 people to get clear answers.
For those of us living with valve disease, it could help decide whether “early action” is safer than waiting until symptoms force it.
The EASY-AS trial will establish whether a strategy of early aortic valve replacement in asymptomatic patients with severe aortic stenosis reduces cardiovascular mortality or heart failure hospitalization and improves other important outcomes.
Deena Z Gotcha. TY. Great, it also has the advantage of being closely monitored in the longer term.

Packing my hospital bag tonight and getting rid of all my emails ready for what will be a quite busy week My operation will be on 22 September USA time around about four or 5 pm in the United States. Here in Australia it will be 7 am Tuesday morning 23 September.
I’ve done all the preparation I can do at this point. Have been eating clean for the last two weeks - fish ,fruit vegetables, water no carbohydrates no fats and very limited meat.
I feel great. I’ve lost a bit of weight and now time has come.
See you all on the other side
just have enough time to get my playlist ready for Apple Music to listen to during the weekend in hospital
I want to take a moment to personally thank Adam Pick for the incredible time, effort, and focus he has dedicated to HeartValveSurgery.com.
With my own surgery now just days away, I feel calm and well prepared—largely because of the resources, guidance, and supportive community Adam has built. His work has helped countless patients like me face this journey with knowledge and confidence.
Grateful for the difference you’ve made, Adam.!

So I have just returned from my cardiac surgeon and I’ve booked in a surgery date for 22 September 2025.
What is ironic is that is the week of the AFL grand final holiday weekend .
For those of you in the US this is very similar to the American Super Bowl equivalent.
It means that I will be in hospital to watch the grand final football game - but nonetheless happy to finally have a date locked in.
I will be getting an On x mechanical valve which will be done via a right Thoracatomy - transaxillary .
Basically, for me, no zipper scar.
Marie Myers Congrats on getting your date for surgery! Now make sure you will have a TV in your room…

Update
I’m scheduled for mechanical aortic valve replacement in early September. The surgical work-up starts Monday with a cardiac CT scan.
In discussions with my surgeon, we reviewed my original preference for a bovine valve. To achieve this, they would need to implant a large valve (up to 27 mm), which would require an additional procedure known as a Y-incision annular enlargement. This newer technique uses a Y-shaped incision to expand the aortic annulus and root, allowing a larger valve to be implanted without excess tissue tension.
On that basis, I’ve chosen a minimally invasive mechanical valve instead. This will address my valve disease, improve long-term heart function, and—if all goes to plan—have me back in CrossFit training before Christmas.
I’ll share updates on recovery and insights that might help others preparing for similar surgery, in line with my ongoing commitment to inform and support the valve community.
Stay well, everyone.

Lilly Black Interestingly enough, when I got my second shot, the next day I felt great as if I received a shot of adrenaline or a high dose of vitamins! it was weird but good. But also, prior to my heart valve replacement, if I didn't over-exert myself physically, I felt fine. I found that with physical exertion the symptoms were more pronounced, especially chest pain. The next day, I would feel tired and short of breath. Fast forward to today, after almost 7 years post heart valve replacement, no more chest pain. If I over-exert, I rest and feel better the next day. But I am 70 years old now, so I do have less energy anyway. I can't complain now and I feel better today than when I was in my 50s. lol! after my 3rd shot, I was extremely tired for 3 days, but that went away and I'm feeling back to 'normal'. :)
