I was just curious if anyone had any issues with scheduling their initial consultation for the Ross procedure? I have been trying to reach Dr. El Hamamsy’s office for weeks at this point and I keep getting met with someone will call you when the next day or two. I’m... Read more.

I wouldn’t wait weeks for anything.

Hi Cydney, I just contacted Dr. El-Hamamsy's team on your behalf. I'm hopeful his office will be contacting you shortly. 😀
Cydney Redmon
You’re amazing, thank you so so much!
Robert Miller
Depending on your insurance, you might need a referral. But if an office isn't calling you back after multiple attempts, I would just cross them off the list. Maybe Adam's intervention will help getting an appointment. But how are you going to be treated afterwards? Need to get Adam involved... Read more.

Adam, they contacted me shortly after. Leemor their program manager is getting everything sorted. Thank you for everything!
Cydney Redmon
Robert, I completely understand where you’re coming from. I would potentially feel that way if I hadn’t received glowing reviews for Dr. El Hamamsy. I was having issues getting my records to their office. My local cardiologist would not send the referral so I had to independently do it. It’s... Read more.

Leemor is the best.
Getting my records to them was the hardest part for me too. Everything else was smooth sailing.
Glad to hear things are moving forward.

Wow, good job Adam you are truly an Angel to us all on here!!!! Good Luck Cydney!!! I wish someone here In Kelowna BC, Canada performed the Ross but I don’t think the docs are as specialized so I’m getting the OnX mechanical valve put in and going to push... Read more.

Sometimes its who you know. I just made an appointment for a second opinion with the head of all urology at a major boston hospital. Not taking on new patients. My daughter knew somebody who knew somebody. Not complaining however. Plus seeing him early september to boot.

I can't believe your cardiologist wouldn't send the referral. 🤷

Chad, I am sorry to hear that Ross is not an option in BC. My dad has had a mechanical valve for 20+ years and has not had any complications. He does his INR at home as well. Sending you all the good vibes and healing your way! <3

Richard, I am glad to hear you have great resources as well! Amazing what the power of connections can get you. Hope it all goes smooth for you!
Cydney Redmon
Rose, I know! It has been such a struggle. Without getting way into the weeds, I have not had the best support with the medical systems here. I did bounce from HCA health system to KU which complicated things a bit.
My local surgeon at KU was supportive, but the... Read more.

Cydney, yes about connections. Its a way of life in more than just medicine. Its who you know not what you know ? Talk about connections, or lack thereof, i spent 4 hours recently in a local city hospital emergency room in the middle of the night. Not heart related... Read more.

I would add to Richard’s post:
It’s not what you know, or who you know; it’s what you know about who you know!

Hi everyone! I’m new to the group. I am curious on what resources are out there in making a decision and finding the right surgeon for me. I live in KC and will likely need to travel for treatment. I am 29. I have a bicuspid aortic valve that needs... Read more.

Hey Cydney,
Yes, The Ross Procedure can indeed involve the use of a Dacron graft to address issues such as aneurysms. Here are some key points about this approach:
- Purpose of Dacron Graft: The Dacron graft is used to reinforce the pulmonary autograft, which is transplanted to replace the... Read more.

I have met with a surgeon here locally he was discussing mechanical valve. I didn’t even know about Ross at the time. I have a follow up with him this week and want to discuss his opinion on it and of course me traveling. I did a second opinion video... Read more.
Cydney, don't be afraid to travel. Many on this website have. You are wise to get a second opinion. Keep up the rest and search. You'll eventually find the best choice for you.
Hi Cydney,
Welcome to the group. I traveled for a Ross procedure from the Cincinnati area to Mt Sinai in NYC in 2023. I would do it again no question. Dr El-Hamamsy was my surgeon and he and his team are truly amazing.
If you have any questions I would... Read more.
Hey Cydney,
I also had a very leaky bicuspid aortic valve and a slight aneurysm in my ascending aorta. I was 22 when I had surgery at Mt Sinai with Dr. El-Hamamsy in 2021. I was slated for a Ross procedure but they were able to do a valve-sparring root... Read more.
