Hello everyone. My surgery is coming up in 2 weeks to replace my aortic valve. I have a quadricuspid valve, with severe regurgitation. I am really struggling with the choice between the mechanical valve, or the tissue valve. My cardiologist recommends the mechanical valve based on my age and good health, and I I hold her advices with very high regards, she has always put my well being at the highest priority. But I am worried about the commitment to lifelong therapy with blood thinner, because of my life style and diet. I am very active, like to travel, and I am sometimes rough and clumsy and get hurt, and I love to eat a ton of greens, like I will literally eat a whole head of lettuce (like romaine for redleaf etc.) and a couple of heads of broccoli daily. Also, I hav never been on medication before and I worry about shortages and accessibility and chain supply. If you have a mechanical valve, how has the warfarin therapy impacted your life, and are you happy and satisfied with your decision? And is there any one here who was recommended the mechanical valve but chose to go with the tissue valve. If so, what were the reasons for choosing tissue valve knowing you will need to replace the valve again in the future.
