I’ve just completed my three-month check-in with the Adrian Costa Trial Centre.
My new aortic valve is performing exceptionally well, and the early intervention has clearly supported a strong and rapid recovery.
As part of the Easy-AS trial, the aim is to demonstrate that early intervention is the optimal pathway for those diagnosed in childhood and monitored through adulthood.
I feel genuinely privileged to be part of this trial and to benefit from its work.
Marie Myers Great news, and an uplifting report for those in “the waiting room”.
Deena Z Awesome news! Congrats. This trial might be an interesting article or video for HVS.com.

David Buchanan It’s called EASY-AS, and it’s focused on people with severe aortic stenosis who don’t yet have symptoms.
Right now, the standard approach is usually “watch and wait” until symptoms show up. This study is testing whether it’s actually better to replace the valve earlier — either with surgery or a transcatheter procedure — before the damage sets in.

They’re looking at things like:
Survival and long-term heart outcomes
Heart failure hospitalisations
Quality of life and independence
How many days people stay well and out of hospital
The trial is running in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Serbia, and will follow almost 3,000 people to get clear answers.
For those of us living with valve disease, it could help decide whether “early action” is safer than waiting until symptoms force it.
The EASY-AS trial will establish whether a strategy of early aortic valve replacement in asymptomatic patients with severe aortic stenosis reduces cardiovascular mortality or heart failure hospitalization and improves other important outcomes.
Deena Z Gotcha. TY. Great, it also has the advantage of being closely monitored in the longer term.
