A year ago today, I received the gift of a mended heart! Grateful to Dr. Gillinov, the Cleveland Clinic, family, and friends who supported me so well before, during and after. I'm especially thankful for Adam and the cheerleaders in this group who gave me such hope and encouragement. Life is full and busy again and I am filled with gratitude.

I have to be realistic that her disease is terminal but we are taking each day as it comes and praying we still have some quality time left. I know there are some tough days ahead and i hope i can stay strong though this. The bottom line is that we will not allow her to suffer just for us.

Richard Munson Rose, anyone who has a successful relationship with a richard must be pretty special. We are a unique breed and very picky when it comes to mates. I made my son a richard Edward jr. To keep the tradition alive. Sadly he has not been lucky enough to find a rose or a nancy or a marie. He is a great dad of twins however being a single parent.

Heather Kelly Randy - My Surgeon discharged me on day 4 and did not require me to stay, however, I am only 1.5 hrs away by car if I needed to be there. His office also scheduled my post op visit via Telehealth so I would just talk to your surgeon and see what they recommend. I will admit I was so glad to get home but it was a lot and I was weak and tired. If you do fly have someone with you and def plan on wheelchair assistance I would assume. Esther Levin-Morrison Ginny, I am doing very well. Yes, we are back in sunny Florida. The surgery went very well. I was out of the ICU in one day. The surgery was on a Monday, and I was out of the hospital on Thursday. I am walking about 8000-9000 steps per day. I have pretty much resumed my normal activities except for driving. That has been the tough one. The hospital staff was great! They were very attentive. Where is your family staying during your stay in Cleveland?

Your recovery at home sounds like it's gone so well - not even a month past surgery and already walking so much and resuming some normal activities. So very encouraging! We are planning to stay at the Holiday Inn. Might not have been so easy in January with the very cold temps but should be better by April, I hope. Did flying back home present any problems?

Esther Levin-Morrison No issues flying home. I was released from the hospital on a Thursday. The Post-op appointment was Monday then we flew home on Tuesday. We flew 1st class because I wanted to limit myself to others. I requested a wheelchair. We stayed at the Intercontinental Suites next door to the Holiday Inn. We needed the two rooms because my daughter was helping too (she is a 3rd-year Medical Student). The main intercontinental attached to the hospital has the best restaurant around. Restaurants are limited in the area. The car service the CC provided was excellent to and from the airport.

Ginny Turner Esther, thank you for the good info. We have also booked first class and requested a wheelchair. We'll have a 2 1/2-hr flight to Dallas then a 3-hr drive home to East Texas - a long day. Thanks for the restaurant recommendation at the main Intercontinental hotel. I hope I do as well as you and George did with your surgeries. That's my plan!
