About Me

I've always known I've had a heart murmur. Two years ago my primary doctor said I should get an echocardiogram as a baseline, even though I was not having any symptoms. To our surprise, I had moderate aortic stenosis. Six months later my echo showed severe. We've done watchful, waiting for the last eighteen months, and even though my numbers haven't changed that much, the surgeon says it's time. Again I have no symptoms, and I have no other comorbidities. He said I was born with three leaflets but two of them remained partly fused together at birth. This explains why I have severe aortic stenosis even though I'm only 66. I am so thankful having found this site! Our family moved to Orlando in May and the best thing about the move was knowing of Dr Accola and watching his videos here. I met with him this week and he is absolutely kind, caring and everything you read about him. Gives me confidence thinking about the surgery knowing that he will be my surgeon and that I am a part of this community. Thank you to all of you for all you share, I have been silently reading everybody's posts for the past year :-) Now it's game on for me too!
