Great news! I am excited to announce that the University of Miami Cardiac and Vascular has become the newest sponsor of HeartValveSurgery.com!

University of Miami Joins HeartValveSurgery.com

Located in Miami, Florida, the University of Miami Cardiac and Vascular provides comprehensive cardiovascular care through UHealth – University of Miami Health System. As South Florida’s only academic cardiac and vascular program, its multidisciplinary team combines advanced technology, clinical research, and specialized expertise to care for patients with heart valve disease and other complex cardiovascular conditions including atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, aortic aneurysms and heart failure.

Nationally Recognized Heart Valve Care

The University of Miami’s heart valve program provides patients access to a broad range of surgical and transcatheter therapies, including minimally invasive heart surgery, complex valve surgery, the Ross Procedure, structural heart procedures, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement, commonly known as TAVR.

The program has received The Society of Thoracic Surgeons’ highest 3-star rating for both aortic valve surgery and mitral valve surgery. Its TAVR program also ranks among the top 10% nationally. By bringing together cardiac surgeons, interventional cardiologists, imaging specialists, and other cardiovascular experts, the University of Miami team can evaluate each patient’s condition and develop an individualized treatment plan.

Expanding Patient Education and Access to Specialized Care

“We are very excited to partner with HeartValveSurgery.com to help patients and their families better understand heart valve disease and the many treatment options now available,” said Dr. Juan Pablo Umaña, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Miami Health System.

“This relationship will enable us to connect with patients throughout their journey, share trusted educational resources, and expand access to the specialized, multidisciplinary care provided by our heart valve team.”

This commitment to patient education closely aligns with the mission of HeartValveSurgery.com—to help patients and caregivers become informed, connect with experienced specialists, and navigate their heart valve journeys with greater confidence.

Academic Medicine and Clinical Innovation

One of the important benefits of receiving care at an academic medical center is access to ongoing research and clinical innovation.

At University of Miami Cardiac and Vascular, patients may benefit from advanced cardiovascular imaging, NIH-funded research, clinical trials, and new approaches to diagnosing and treating heart disease. These resources can be especially valuable for patients with complex valve conditions who may need highly specialized care.

Meet the University of Miami Heart Valve Team

The University of Miami has assembled a dedicated team of heart valve specialists who work together to help patients understand their diagnoses and treatment options. The team includes cardiac surgeons Dr. Juan Pablo Umaña and Dr. Ciro Amodio, along with interventional cardiologists Dr. Ioannis Chatzizisis, Dr. Eduardo de Marchena, and Dr. Nikolaos Spilias.

Together, these specialists provide coordinated care for patients with aortic, mitral, tricuspid, and other structural heart conditions.
