Emma Lovewell, Peloton Instructor, Stands Up for Heart Disease & Cancer Patients

After my open-heart surgery and my wife’s brain surgery, Robyn and I committed ourselves to a healthy lifestyle.

An unexpected ingredient in our wellness recipe has been the addictive use of Peloton exercise classes. For me, the Peloton instructors are my favorite part of this next-gen fitness platform. Every time I need a mental reset or an inspirational jolt, the Peloton coaches – including Robin, Denis, Alex, Ben, Andy and Matt – always deliver a righteous, body-brain experience.

Emma Lovewell was one of the first Peloton coaches to help me visualize a healthier version of my future self.

If you have not taken a cycling class with Emma… Beware.  This author, dancer, clothing designer, snowboarder, cook, green thumb, and fitness model will… kick… your… butt.

She might look all cute and sweet.

Trust me. She’s not.

Emma’s classes come with a sweat-drenched, floor mat guarantee.

Her classes also come with overt, neurolinguistic catch-phrases to motivate you and/or help you appreciate life. A few or my favorite ‘Emma-isms’ are:

  • “If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough.”
  • “You have to be extra to be extraordinary.”
  • “If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.”

Ready for another reason why I always look forward to Emma’s classes?

The music.

Emma’s playlists are a timeless mash-up and melting pot of heavy bass lines, thumping beats, alt, moodiness, grooviness, emo, flo, EDM, b-girl, hip-hop, pop, and my favorite genre of all time… 1990s rock!

Emma Raises Awareness to Heart Disease

Here’s the thing.

I don’t know Emma.  I don’t know any of the Peloton instructors.

However… After you take 1,000 or so classes with them, you kinda feel as if you have a teenie-tiny bit of insight as to who they are and what they stand for.

So, when my wife sent me Emma’s latest Instagram post, I simply smiled and thought, “Heck ya Emma!”

As you can see below, Emma was a keynote speaker at a big American Heart Association celebration during Heart Month.  After the event, Emma posted, “Thank you American Heart Association for having me as your keynote speaker. It was an honor to be in a room full of inspiring people who are so dedicated to an important cause. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Prevention is key, and I’m happy to help raise awareness.”

Emma’s Fight Against Cancer

It’s clear.

Emma has transformed her Peloton platform into something more expansive than fitness classes with a bike that goes nowhere.  I mean, she was on a Superbowl commercial with John Travolta and Martha Stewart.

However, the core of Emma’s goodness often shines best during Peloton classes. For example… Through a friend, I learned about Margaux. As you can see below, Margaux is a young girl fighting Stage 4 liver cancer.  To lift her spirits, Margaux’s parents and support group formed “Team Margaux”.

When Emma learned about Margaux, this happened…

Here’s the wonderful update.  Margaux is now in remission. Go Margaux!

I would later learn that Emma’s awareness to cancer is beyond acute.  As you can read here, Emma’s mother, Teresa Yuan, is a cancer survivor. Go Teresa!

A “HeartValveGuy” Shout-Out from Emma?

I’ve been fortunate to receive a few shout-outs from Peloton instructors including Robin, Denis, Alex, and Jess. (If you would like to connect on Peloton, my user name is “HeartValveGuy”.)

When it came time for my recent 1,200th ride, I choose a ‘Classic Rock Ride’ that Emma was leading. There were thousands of people in the class.  As I have learned from Larry David, I curbed my enthusiasm.  However, about midway through the ride, this happened…

Let’s Live Learn & Love Well!

On behalf of our patient community, thanks so much to Emma for her support of patients with heart disease.

I also need to thank Emma for inspiring Margaux and her family in their time of need.

I’m already looking forward to the next time I get to “wiggle my fingers” and “wiggle my toes” in an Emma class.

Keep on tickin’ Emma!
