By Adam Pick on January 23, 2012

I’m amazed by how fast Heart Valve Journals, our social network for patients and caregivers, continues to grow. I’m also very touched by the stories shared within this caring community.

As you may have seen, we always select one patient to be our “Featured Patient” within the community. That said, I would like to introduce you to Mitch Friedman, our current “Featured Patient”.

I could tell you all about Mitch and his upcoming heart valve surgery planned for February 2, 2012 . Instead, I’ll simply encourage you to click this link to learn about Mitch’s pursuit of a healthy heart.

My thoughts and prayers are with Mitch — now and on February 2nd. My hope is that Mitch has an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery.

Keep on tickin’ Mitch!

Dear Mitch,

Have NO fear my friend. The surgery is a Piece of Cake. You will see. I was a mess for nearly a year before I had my AVR. I was NUTS! But I picked the right surgeon; CRAIG SMITH at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He’s Mohammad Ali amongst his peers. NONE BETTER! I was out of ICU in 13 hours, on my feet in 17 hours, walking, climbing stairs, two flights of them on the second day. This was on July 12, 2011. Now I’m back on the Courts playing singles for 2-3 hours twice a week with a lesson in between. I jog, walk, free weight and eat right. But I always did the right thing for my body my entire life. Thank GOD. Because it paid off BIG TIME! So, FEAR nothing, talk to GOD, ask HIM for HIS protection. All the very Best on 2/2. GOOD LUCK! Joe M.
