I was able to come home yesterday and start to get reintroduced to once familiar things that are now seem as a distant goals thesehealing will be a slow process! I want to thank my awesome wife and Her support.
Day 4 switched pain meds late yesterday to Tylenol. Each day I feeling stronger but in small ways. A little fast with a lap walking without a walker or eating, the things that I can still do mostly on my own and want to thank my wife for all the help she is providing, love you Shanna. Also my mom and sister are wound out as well!
He's doing really well. We are day 2 out of surgery and he was just climbing stairs. He is strong. He will be sore for awhile. It's amazing what the human body can do. Today was a good day. Thanks everyone for all of the support. This site has really helped him.
So surgery is tenative for 10:40 AM today! I’m still in a good mind set starting to think a little more about what after the surgery will be like, but really at this point just trying to make to the anesthesia and will deal with the after afterwards! I do feel a little emotional today but it just of the unknown. During the heart Cath yesterday all was good with my Viens except one of the Vien on the heart is at a 90 degrees, so will have to see if that is something that Dr. Accola will also fix! They are saying about 2 hours before surgery they will take me down for pre op.. I want to thank eceryone on this site for their support, as it really has been a valuable resource in my joinery!

We have to be at the Hospital at 5:00 AM for a Heart Cath procedure at 7:00AM. Then I will be admitted and sure that I will have plenty of time waiting around today. Tomorrow my surgery is scheduled tentatively for 7:30 am.
Today is six days until surgery. I have pretty much been reading the Patient News on this site for the last couple weeks. Today was the first day that I saw my name on the "Upcoming Surgeries" list. This last week I have been very relaxed, calm and in good spirits. I thought I would be more nervous! At this point, I think this is a relief to get past this surgery which I know for 13 years would someday happen. I picked an excellent surgeon, I have the best supporting family and friends, I have my faith and an excellent church community - I'm very blessed! My valve problem can be fixed and then I have to work hard to get back to a better version of me! I am really just not worrying or spending any time worrying at this point.
This past week we met with Dr. Kevin Accola from Cardiovascular Surgeons and the valve options are 1. Inspiris Bovine Pericardial Valve or 2. ON-X Mechanical Valve. I'm going to go with the Inspiris Bovine Pericardial Valve because I will not need to be on a blood thinner like Coumadin and they are able to do a valve in valve replacement if this one fails at any point in the future. My surgery date is on 5.10.2018 and I will go into the hospital on 5.9.2018 for a heart cath and be admitted.
Since I have been diagnosed with aortic stenosis seven years ago I go to my cardiologist annually for an echo of my heart to measure the valve and make sure it is still working okay. I thought this was going to be the year my cardiologist told me it’s time to have my valve replace. Mostly because of being tried all the time and earlier this year was getting light head for about a 2 week period. When I visited my cardiologist he told me after reviewing the echo that my valve was still okay, but did a stress test and put me on the tread mill, which was not fun since I’m out of shape. All is okay as far as my heart is concerned. My Cardiologist did refer me for a sleep study and now I have mild sleep apnea and a cpap machine to help with the sleep apnea and I’m getting use to using the cpap machine.
I do want to thank all of you that post on this blog and I visit weekly to read how everyone is doing and handling the pre-surgery and post-surgery of open heart surgery.
Thanks and good luck in your journey.
