Today is the 8th anniversary of my mitral valve repair. The day falls on a Sunday this year so I will not take the usual holiday from work. I am here to say to anyone with the procedure ahead of them that my heart function is something I rarely think about. My cardiology checkup every year is routine and I hope for the same for you.
My old best friend in my profile photo passed at age 15 about 4 years ago and now I walk 3-4 miles a day with my new best friend. He'll be 3 next month and I'm looking forward to years of walking together.

Richard Munson Best of luck to you and your best friend. Shadow will be 4 next month and also wishes you well. We believe that cassie in my hvs photo right after my surgery and passed shortly after sent shadow to us to ease our pain. She was only 10 but what a girl. When god put dogs on this earth, he was thinking of us for sure.
Me and my faithful hiking companion. Looking forward to being able to hike again!

Michael Neverisky Thanks so much, Barbara! Hearing about your experience is most reassuring. My loyal friend in the photo came to us from West Va. and enjoys the trails (and snow!) of New Hampshire.

Phyllis Petersen I'm not sure how long it'll take you after OHS to get back to hiking, but I had minimally-invasive robotic mitral valve repair on 10/13/16 and took a 4 hour hike on 12/26/16. I took a lot of breaks and turned back before the rest of my family, but it was great to get back out there. I lived for a little over a year in Rye, NH back in the early 80's. The hiking is fantastic up in the White Mts., so good luck with getting out there again soon.
