At the Forefront of Innovation

The UVA Advanced Cardiac Valve Center is committed to excellence by focusing on traditional open heart surgery to advancing minimally invasive techniques for treating heart valve disease. UVA has helped pioneer transcatheter therapies for heart valve disease including TAVR and MitraClip.

In addition, UVA now offers minimally invasive valve repair (also known as “mini valve”). This technique is an alternative to open heart surgery. By avoiding a sternotomy, the patient recovers more quickly with less pain.
