Henry Brouwer  Hi Deborah, glad to see you are home and prayers with you on your recovery. A quick question, what did they measure your ascending aorta root during surgery and did they replace it or not?

Marie Myers  I am 7 days out of my AVR and aneurysm repair and I am still occasionally weepy. It can take a while to get to your new normal...Don't be hard on yourself!

Henry Brouwer  We are all praying for you, Deborah. My surgery is scheduled for the 10th. Did your surgeon mention anything about the ascending root, as I hear this is common with a bicuspid valve?

pam williams  Deborah I love Cathleens comment about enjoying your grandchildren even more, I had my avr 18 weeks ago and I feel I have so much more energy and vitality in the last 2 months, it didn't happen overnight at 72 I expected that, just finished cardiovascular rehab phase1 it's normal to be apprehensive and anxious I certainly was stay strong and focused best wishes to you and your husband x

DEBORAH Vulpi  thanks to everyone who responded to my post...we are all so blessed to have an issue that can be fixed ...they have this procedure down to a science and have done thousands of these repairs..Just want to be able to put this behind me and get on with my life....at least for a few months before my husband gets his new aortic vavle.!!

Civita Fahey  Deborah, my surgeon says they routinely do mini sternotomy for AVR also.. I havent had surgery yet but thats the plan.

Sue Sanchez Grela  My sternotomy is about 6 inches and my AVR was March 1. I am doing really well and hope for the same for you!

Steven A Husted  I AM NOT SURE WHAT A MINI IS BUT MINE WAS ABOUT 7 INCHES AND ONLY THE MIDDLE TWO INCHES CAN BE SEEN REALLY WELL AT ALMOST 3 YEARS OUT

DEBORAH Vulpi  Thanks....getting better every day...it was a tough procedure having it done through the groin.
Did not expect some much discomfort from this procedure..but its behind me now and the outcome was that my arteries are clear ...yippee so no bypass needed..all of my other pre-op will be done the day before at Columbia and my husband and I will stay overnight at the hotel within the hospital for my surgery the next morning..

Just found out last week that my husband Jim will need his aortic valve replaced also...so as soon as I am fully recovered he will be going next..
We both knew this was a possibility but did not expect it to be back to back..
Well once we are both recovered we will be like knew..looking forward to feeling well again.
