Very successful surgery with Dr. Marc Gerdisch. I was admitted and my surgery scheduled for Friday the 11th at 12:30. Surgery didn't begin until 3:30 pm and ended around 8 P.M. Valve replacement with mechanical valve and ascending aorta repair was successful. I left the hospital at around 5:30 on... Read more.

Great news Charles, so glad you shared it with us. You did it by the Grace of God and a great medical team. Welcome to recovery and listen to your body and take it one day at a time. Continued good health and recovery. Keep us posted. Congratulations and God... Read more.
Glad to hear! Too bad we didn't cross paths while you were there. Top notch team 🙂
Yeah im sorry we missed each other. The nurses did tell me your room was right next to mine in ICU. I asked about you and your surgery but they would only give me minimal details due to hippa. Were you also held in ICU basically the entire time? I... Read more.
Charles, great news, now you're on the other side of this and hope recovery goes well. Dr. Gerdisch is my surgeon as well and doing the same surgery you had on March 28. Keep us updated on the rigid sternal fixation and how it's going. I have a vested interest,... Read more.
Right on, Charles!!! It's over. You are in recovery and will be stronger than ever. Exhale.
Welcome to recovery Charles! So glad all is well as Ana said, listen to your body. Everything will improve with each day.
Awesome update to read, Charles! Glad you are on the mend!
Awesome Charles. Congrats on a successful surgery.
Amazing News!!! So glad you for you and I know you will do great!!!!
Ahhh, now the fun begins, though I've never had the experience of rigid sternal fixation--lucky you. Dr. Gerdisch and his team are the absolute best, so you're in good hands.

As my surgery date approaches, (the 11th) I'm getting more and more nervous. I feel like I did everything I should have, I asked all the right questions, and I made the best decision for me. I guess I'm just rethinking everything. I need to calm down, any pointers? (FYI... Read more.
Deep breaths, a bottle of jack daniels and remember we were all scared blankless. Normal to be nervous. Just kidding on the booze.

Richard, I chose Bourbon (no kidding). Charles, you have done all the right things. We have all been where you are at. I will be praying for you and we will welcome you into recovery. God bless you
Charles - You're so young and there's a lot of life ahead. You're going to want to live it to the fullest! Yes, it involves a few hours for your procedure and a few weeks of taking it easy, but it's the best investment you'll make in yourself. You've done... Read more.
Totally normal, just trust your research and decisions. Everything will work out.
I suggest that you review your recovery plans. Remember you have a limit on what you can lift, can not drive, showers can be tricky ( i used a chair for a week or so) etc , I got stuff done around the house, i doubled checked my health insurance... Read more.
Yep, Charles at your youthful age you will get through the surgery and rebound quickly.
Hi one more idea. Do your taxes you may not want to concentrate on it later
Ya know Charles ... a gentlemen on this page told me when I was kind of questioning my choice that I needed to remember I had done the research, asked all the questions and to be confident in my decision. He said once its made, dont look back. You are... Read more.
Glad i did not do my taxes first. Added stress. I did however become much closer to the man upstairs . He probably got sick of hearing from me but it gave me a feeling of peace.
Hey Charles, we are practically neighbors. You have done all the right things and you are ready. Now focus on the outcome. From your story you should see some immediate relief. Once you recover you should be back to a normal life. Nine more days will go by fast.
If you don't want to do your taxes, why not watch a documentary of something that interests you. When my surgery was postponed due to someone else having an emergency, it was the one time I was totally emotional. I ended up watching a documentary on the Kennedy Assassination and... Read more.

Richard, so glad you have become much closer to who you call "the man upstairs". I call Him the most High God, he will always give you peace if you ask. 🙏❤️
I assume he is a man. The woman upstairs would be my wife on the second floor.
Thanks everyone for the kind words, advice, and prayers. I will update my status as surgery comes and goes.
Just trust in God and know that everything will be alright. Good luck and God Bless
