Very successful surgery with Dr. Marc Gerdisch. I was admitted and my surgery scheduled for Friday the 11th at 12:30. Surgery didn’t begin until 3:30 pm and ended around 8 P.M. Valve replacement with mechanical valve and ascending aorta repair was successful. I left the hospital at around 5:30 on February 14(Valentines Day) I am now home recovering the rigid sternal fixation technique by Dr Gerdisch definitely hastened my ability to get home quickly. I will update everyone on my progress and couldn’t give Dr. Gerdisch a higher recommendation.

I asked about you and your surgery but they would only give me minimal details due to hippa. Were you also held in ICU basically the entire time? I was only moved to step down the last night.

Dan Rhoden Charles, great news, now you're on the other side of this and hope recovery goes well. Dr. Gerdisch is my surgeon as well and doing the same surgery you had on March 28. Keep us updated on the rigid sternal fixation and how it's going. I have a vested interest, 😏.

As my surgery date approaches, (the 11th) I’m getting more and more nervous. I feel like I did everything I should have, I asked all the right questions, and I made the best decision for me. I guess I’m just rethinking everything. I need to calm down, any pointers? (FYI bicuspid aortic valve replacement, ascending aorta repair. I’m 36)

Yes, it involves a few hours for your procedure and a few weeks of taking it easy, but it's the best investment you'll make in yourself. You've done your homework. You've picked an accomplished surgeon and team. You will be confident on game day. When it's behind you,
you'll wonder why you worried so much. You're ready! ❤

Tom Everson I suggest that you review your recovery plans. Remember you have a limit on what you can lift, can not drive, showers can be tricky ( i used a chair for a week or so) etc
, I got stuff done around the house, i doubled checked my health insurance coverage to see if there were any restrictions ( do not want any surprises) . Check about rehab. Everyone heals at a different pace but I found a poster attitude is the best medicine. Good luck.

Rose Madura If you don't want to do your taxes, why not watch a documentary of something that interests you. When my surgery was postponed due to someone else having an emergency, it was the one time I was totally emotional. I ended up watching a documentary on the Kennedy Assassination and that took my mind off things for a while. You could start a journal too. Just ideas to consider. Prayer helped me tremendously as well.
