Went to Mt Sinai today for my pre op testing. Met with Dr Adams first. He was super nice, very down to earth ,explained everything in an easy to understand way and made me feel much more at ease. Big thanks to Adam for sending Flo by to say hi.... Read more.

Got a call today from Dr. Adam's office with two choices for my surgery date. Either November 17th or December 7th. The first date in Nov would be a "live" surgery(other surgeons observing-learning).I think that is great thing but it would mean I would be there for Thanksgiving. The other... Read more.
On the other hand, if you have the surgery before Thanksgiving, you should be feeling much better for Christmas, than if you have the surgery just before Christmas. It's a difficult decision, but I know you will make the right choice for yourself. Sending best wishes.
I agree with Anna. If you do the November surgery you'll feel a lot better for Christmas.
I would have jumped on an earlier date - the waiting was the worst.
I'd take the November date too...less waiting stress & you should be feeling decent by Christmas!
I agree with the others about November. If you wait for December, you'll only have the surgery "hanging over your head" for Thanksgiving. The choice is a personal one and I'm sure you'll make the right one.
I would take the early surgery date, I had the same choice and just before and during post op I regretted not taking the earlier date, you will be further along at Christmas and be more thankful. All the best either way 💐
Thanks everyone for your comments and encouragement. The advice given is very helpful.
It's hard to be so far from home for holidays, but I know I wanted the earliest date I could get. The weather will be chilly, but little chance of snow in November. Do you have a laptop so you can Skype home. When you know where you'll be staying... Read more.

My mitral valve regurgitation has gotten to the severe stage and my cardiologist says it is time to have surgery. I think I am still a little bit in shock that it is actually to that stage. I have been having my mitral valve monitored since I was in my... Read more.

Thank you Adam. The video was just what I needed.
No problem Betty!!! Let me know if you need anything else.
Dr. Adams is who I was referred to. It was Dr. Boateng from his office that called me for the phone consultation.
Great. Fyi, Dr. Adams is one of the leading mitral valve surgeons in the world. In addition to being an extraordinary surgeon, he's also a great guy. I was fortunate to spend some time with him at the Heart Valve Summit last week in Chicago. Glad to hear you are... Read more.
Hi Betty. I am going to have to travel too. I'm also thinking hard about talking to Dr. Adams, as I hear great things about him. Sending best wishes.
Betty, I had my mitral valve repaired by Dr. Adams last year. Outstanding surgeon, outstanding person. Very approachable. Coming from Mississippi is daunting, but I'd do it if I were you. I asked him the last time he replaced when he thought he could repair a valve and he said... Read more.
Thanks Anna. Best wishes to you too and hope you find a surgeon you feel is the best for you. I have decided to go with Dr. Adams. Just waiting now for them to call back with some dates to choose from.
Thank you Darlene. I called Dr. Adams office today to start getting it set up. It makes me feel better to hear from someone who has had surgery done by him.
Hi Betty. I also had surgery by Dr. Adams last August. I had a mitral and tricuspid repair. He did a great job and I did very well. He assured me 100% he could repair my valves and he did. You won't be disappointed. Best wishes..
Thanks Diane. Glad to hear from you. I saw where you had some shortness of breath a few months after surgery. Hope that is gone and you are doing well.
I travelled from Tucson to Cleveland to have the type of repair I wanted. With your additional issues, it is definitely worth travelling to a surgeon who is familiar with your specific problem. Much of my earlier testing was done here and I was able to do a marathon day... Read more.
