Lynn Loudermilk Hey Deena, 52 overcast and chilly. It's ok. I planned on staying home all day and resting before rehab tomorrow. Saturday we are going out for dinner...looking forward to that, our favorite Greek place. Oh and we took a cat in that we are getting tomorrow. She is almost 3 and need a home. A friend of my hubbys from work, her sister is looking for a new home for her, parents death and too much going on for a cat and 2 dogs plus other things. I am happy to take her.

Hello lynn, you asked about my diet changes? Well to start with, the wife and I went through all the canned goods, read all the labels and then gave those to the neighbors. After giving away the unwanted food, the wife and I went to the store and bought all fresh vegetables and fruits. Then the wife started to make salad dressings on her own. I guess the wife is using me as her role model to get fit. Everybody around me in the neighborhood exercise walking bicycling etc etc. The neighbors see me and they scratch their head since they always see me and the wife out walking the dog and preparing our hiking gear that go into the White mountains. I told the neighbors what I have could be genetic or combination of genetic and poor food choices when I was young and on my own. Nevertheless I'm having oatmeal now with berries the morning instead of eggs and bacon etc. Instead of crackers for snacks, it sliced apples and peanut butter yum. Suppertime is been salads with Chicken and homemade salad dressing. I'm loving it as with the wife. I'm looking for good recovery from surgery next week. And, I told the wife under no circumstances do you allow me to stay in the recliner for any length of time.

Lynn Loudermilk Everything that you are eating now I grew up eating. I changed to the ketogenic diet a few years ago. Example I had eggs for breakfast made with a little butter and salt and pepper. Occasionally I have fruit just not a lot at a time. This diet controlls my blood suagr and reduces my inflammation in my body. I do miss oatmeal but it is a grain I don't eat those anymore. no bread either. Basically I eat protein, and fats with a few carbs maybe 20g a day.

Lynn Loudermilk The first two weeks I was home, and a lot of the time now hubby cooks. I did make my breakfast this morning. We ate a lot of egg and bacon the first two weeks. Other things too. Protein is great for bone growth and healing.

Lynn Loudermilk Marshall yea, the walking is very good and the guarding I had at first is close to being gone. Using my arms like to do things yes muuch better and showering is so much better. Was very grateful to have my hubby home with me to help at first. Since he went back to work I have ben doing more and it feels good to do it.

My birthday is February 17th, and I received the word on the 19th. I just stood there devastated when the doctor was talking to me and the wife. Doctor just says you're the perfect candidate since you don't smoke / drink and you weigh 150 lb. Even though the operations routine to the surgeons, it's not my first time around. LOL I've been on this blog site non-stop since the 19th of February. The wife says I'm just way over OCD with us now!!

Hi lynn, I hope you're feeling better as the days go on? Thought about you the other day and a type of valve you chose. I found out from the VA myself that the surgery is covered through the VA but there's absolutely no post-op plan for a veteran that wants to get a mechanical valve. Therefore, it looks like I'll be switching over to the tissue valve because it will not work through the VA on transferring my meds and traveling 2 hours for blood drawn. And, the waiting for lab results would drive me nuts !! Pretty easy for the cardiologist to look at a veteran and say hey you going to want to go with a mechanical valve. However , cardiologist does not explain the process of post-op afterwards for they don't know.

Marshall Rader Crazy is right Lynn !! Just trying to get answers from the VA is challenging !! Oh, I was bummed when told that VA doesn't support the INR test machine !! At least surgery paid for , which I'm thankful !! Cath test this Wed then meet the valve team later afterwards !!

Hey Lynn, yep, Mt Sinai Hospital told me to not attempt exercises, just short (five min) walks. — not that I could do any exercises:). I did overdo it with the stairs and starting fainting, so lesson learned. I am not walking outside either, because of the high tree pollen count in Virginia. Sneezing -ouch. There is no one size fits all. Walking around the house works!!! - gold standard. Keep it up, my warrior buddy. Then cardio rehab!!!

Wow Lynn !! Going to the grocery store after 11 days is so encouraging to me !! I just turned 60 February , and I have same sad condition !! Was wondering what valve you have chosen ?? I hike , climb mountain 🏔️ s , so my doctor suggested mechanical valve !! I'm told by others who had valve replacements that I'll be fine, and be home days after !! Oh, did you get Covid vaccine before surgery !!

Yeah I know, but not for us the patient! 😜😘 Prayers you go in with peace and calmness! It helps tremendously! And be patient with your recovery, takes time and before long you will feel much better! I hope you have good help at home, especially the first week or two.

Debbie Swartz Understand about the anxiety. I had that a year earlier when I thought I was having the surgery then. I soon became more accepting of what was to happen and was able to feel more relaxed about it. Just went forward and took a day at a time. Everyone is different. In past I did not want to do this but after talking with my surgeon I felt more ready and accepting of this surgery. Just thankful this was found early and was watched for several years. Just thankful we live with modern medicine!
