Heart wise doing very well. Cardiologist is happy with everything. I only take 81mg aspirin a day.
I have had major dental work done in the last week...all teeth removed. I have full dentures now. I swear mouth pain is harder to deal with than having heart surgery. It is one week today and still sore and healing.
I hope you all have a wonderful day and doing well.
ok, my Cardiologist said I was doing great. In the past month fell 2x. Balance is off, has been a very long time (neck). A few weeks ago fell on my butt when my chair rolled away from me and the 22 was being stupid and worked my way down some limestone to a creek and twisted my ankle and fell. Still hurt, chest is fine. No didn't see the dr. That ankle and been badly sprained 5 times now. I can walk on it, just very sore and brused. I have to stop thinking I am in my 20's and realize someone in my helth/weight class shouldn't be climbing on rocks. Feel stupid.
He said the echo was perfect and that I am doing very well. No more plavix only the 81mg asprin.
Asked abut the pain he checked it out and we agreed it i just nerve pain and may take a while to go away. My neck surgery nerve pain took about a year. So I wait.
I am so happy I am doing so well. Now to work on weight loss again. Wih me luck.
How long does it take on average for your chest to not hurt getting out of bed. I Am ok laying down (using my wedge) but getting up almost always hurts. I am 4 months out from surgery now. Other than that...had my echo Friday and see the cardiologist on Thursday. Been down even though I take an anti anxiety med. Been riding my teeter at home and doing more around the house, even ventured to the basement now a few times. Fibro has been kicking my butt, but dealing with that. So glad my dr let me have more t3. I think out of 30 in over a month I have used 6-7 total. It helps. Hope you are all doing well.
Now to know my limit. Starting out again with 30 minutes to 40, on teeter. I thought I was more weeks along than I was, counted the weeks a few times and tomorrow is actually 11 weeks since surgery. I thought I was past 12 already...lol Slowing down was a good thing. Nerve zingers, muscle and bone aches are never fun.
We are going to have the outside of the house changed as in gutters siding etc and I have to get going on the reseach and who to get quotes from. Next year is driveway. I hate adulting.
Went to my regular dr today to ask for T3. She said yes and gave me 30 tablets. It will last me months. I never take more than one a day and sometimes only 1-2 a week. Fibro and healing from this isnt' a good combo. It will help. She also said I should be more active ike I have been and if I get too sore take a couple days off.
Obviously I have been doing too much, lifting especally...lol Thanks for listening!
OK, so this morning I finally decided about rehab. The drive for one hour to get there (for one hour there) and the fact that I am doing great AND have a recumbent stepper at home plus I can walk outside now that it is nicer....I am not going to rehab anymore. I will be staying active. Back to exploring my old cemetarys.
EDIT....I just did my recumbent stepper for 30 minutes. 2900 steps. Used my arms also. Feeling good.
I am tired and woke up with my pain levels off the chart. Mostly fibro....took one of my last t3's I had and slept well for 2 hours. Completely out of it today so staying home.
We adopted a cat this weekend. She is beautiful. Her and our Golden Addy get along really well, so pleased. Nothing like a free cat. A friend of hubbys form work her sister needed to get rid of some of the chaos, a parent died and a lot of stuff going on. So we took the cat, she will be 2 in December and is huge.
Marshall, relax and go with the flow, I know that is difficult. Prayers.
Have a great day everyone. I am going to try...OH dinner Saturday was awesome!!!
Today I did 40 minutes level 2 4159 steps. BP was 96/60 when I was done. All I can say is I am very glad I am no longer on blood pressure meds form the surgery. oh and my watch has 2432 steps. Yep tired. Ready to rest. Maybe it is the plavix making it low, it is a side effect.
Today I got upped to the next difficulty level and did 35 minutes and it said 3735 steps. Yes tired and sore since I really haven't been doing a lot of physical things in years...oy. Never out of breath and heart rate doesn't go very high. Today after bp was low but she had me stand to do it again and it was good. Right now so glad I am not taking blood pressure meds anymore.
Started eating better again today. Better for me anyway, I am keto. Very few carbs and I fasted today also. Missed that, I know sounds weird but I was used to not having breakfast and the first few weeks it was suggested I eat 3 meals. I feel better when I don't. I also gained a few pounds back, but will lose it again. Grains don't like me but I like them. Inflammation.
Today did 40 minutes on the recumbent stepper on level one. Wednesday 40 minutes level 2 and some light weights. Wish me luck after that. I did take a short walk on Saturday .5 of a mile 15 minutes. The OA in my hips has been screaming since Saturday.
Went well, pushed myself harder to go faster. Friday I will be doing 40 minutes instead of 30.
Oh and possibly setting 2 instead of one. OH I am getting my first covid shot tomorrow,
nervous about it and possibly having side effects. Wish me luck.
Back form rehab....2230 steps on the recumbent stepper and I was on 30 minutes. I still don't use my arms for it and my watch says 1413 steps as of right now. Crazy, wasn't even out of breath and blood pressure was good. I am amazed.
Those of you that are 4 weeks or more post op are you still taking pain meds? I haven't taken prescription pain meds since 1st week home and hve been avoiding taking any tylenol mainly because I am tired of taking so many medications, Am I hurting myself in not taking anything for the pain?
Finally home from rehab...went well. Blood pressure stayed below 120 and ekg thing was good. Did 20 MINUTES on their recumbent stepper all at one time. I have been sticking to lower times and wow didn't think I had it in me to do 20, no shortness of breath either.
Everything went well. I am released from the surgeons office. Friday is the start of rehab and in 3 months I have a new baseline echo and then see the cardiologist the next week. Then the next year. Whew....
OK, it has been a month since surgery. Sternum aches all the time and no matter how I sleep...side or back. Muscle top of chest also hurts. Nerve pain off and on all over chest. The nerve pain I cana deal with, after have c 5-7 fused I understand that pain well. How long till I can comfortably sleep on my side, back sleeping just makes everything hurt...lol Sorry for the whining. Any suggestions other than tylenol?
Oh the cardiologist took me off the blood pressure meds yesterday!
Ok...dr went great! Labs, xray and ekg are excellent. She cut down on blood pressure meds and said, this will fix you, you don't have heart disease, just had the bad valve. When we see you in 3 weeks you will be a new person. Yes everyday I feel better. Today just really helped with my thinking process.
I went to the grocery store with my hubby today and walked the most I have walked at one time since I got home....house is small and it has been too cool. I have to say it felt great. Monday is my post opp appointment. Stitches from chest tubes come out...YEAH. I am amazed at how the brusing is coming out now. LOL I also find myself falling asleep easily. I personally think it is the blood pressure meds.
Hello, how long does the swelling last and will it always look like a bump? Yesterday I called the dr's and asked about taking off the wound vac, tape was horriblly irritating. Healing now :) It was a relief to get it off and scar lsi looking very nice.
Just wondering about that bump.. :)
I have to say I am still have to get used to the new heartbeat. I am used to the old one. This one feels like I have never felt a really before like ut should be. Freaks me out a little. Used to the woosh. How long will it take to get used to it?
morning.....finally a good night of sleep. Still woosy but expected that. Could be from the blood pressure meds. Or just laying around a week.
Scott is being a real help he makes sure I do everything I should...and what I shouldn't. I have a 5 lb weight limit right now. They used a size 21 valve. AND both the surgeon and his way aweosme surgical nurse said my stenosis was the worst they had seen and it was bicuspid. Crazy.
It was great to sleep.
Has anyone slept in their bed right away? I slept in my recliner last night, just afraid of the pain getting up from bed.
Well most of what I had been told at that day of into and labs has changed.
Surgery is now 11:30 and I need to be there at 9:30.
Scott can stay and wait, Dr will talk to him and he will be able to see me after.
I can bring my "stuff" day one instead of him bringing it the next day.
Oh and anything I have been taking will be given to me after surgery :) Including my vit d3!
So today I will be doing most of my packing. Shower that crappy soap again tonight and in the morning(did last night too).
I know my normal tired will be worse for a while....hope not too much more.
Thanks everyone for all your kind words and caring!
Pre op on Tuesday was exhausting, finally starting to feel a bit better. It really doesn't help I have fibromyalgia and MPS oh and OA.
Has anyone used the heart hugger vest? I will be having one, I watched a video and I was like that sounds like a deal to me. I will also be having that negative pressure wound therapy that I have written about before.
I found out also that Scott (hubby) will be able to see me once a day in the hospital. We are both relieved.
Yes stressed, but will be ok. My hubby has been so supportive and I am glad I have him around.
Question for those of you who had their surgery during "covid". How did you deal with not having a visitor? All I have is my hubby and from what I know he can't come see me. I can see me being very angry and depressed. Suggestions and how did you deal with it?
Pacing wires, does everyone get them?
How hard is it to recover form OHS?
Anyone here an online gamer, how long till you got back to gaming?
Been sleeping on wedge since my neck fusion surgery...anyone use one post valve replcement?
Leggings, are they possible to pull up after surgery?
Ok, so I weighed the pros and cons of tissue vs mechanical and had decided on tissue. Now after reading more I am like...there is not a 100% perfect choice. There is always a con. Second guessing myself now.
Had my last appointment at dentist yesterday, 2 teeth pulled and a filling replacing one that fell out. Doing ok, grateful for Tylenol 3. They called the surgeon to ask about future appointments and I have to take an antibiotic 2 hours before an appointment for the rest of my life. And I have to wait 6 months to go back after surgery.
Last two days haven't been the worst ever, the bad part is the numbing. Does not help that I have TMJ and it is in full pain mode. Today a filling for one that fell out and 2 extractions. Then I can heal. Just figuring out foods to eat for a few days. I am sure it will be eggs mostly. I am keto...no grain.
Evening, tomorrow is day 1 of the dentist. Trying to not get stressed, it is what it is. No choice I have to do it.
Questions...Ladies...bras. What is the best kind to get, Is a regular soft cup ok or should it be more structered like a sports bra with a zipper front? Is a shower seat a good idea for when you get home? Hospital, pants to wear so your butt doesn't hang out? Dry shampoo? Thanks :)
OK...scared more of the dentist than the surgery. I have 3 appointments after going the 1st time in 30+ years. A couple things to be done but not many, they said some people after a couple years are much worse than you. I also found a connection with the dentist, he was very kind.
Also on my list this next month is hair trim and color. I also need to find some sports bras from what I read and I think I might wear my old worn out leggings in the hospital.
Pretty much have a choice, but he suggested bio valve. All tests show only my valve is "bad" since it is bicuspid. Don't know which way to go, more reading I guess. Surgery date, as long as I get all the dental work done, March 9th.
UG, don't want any of this. It doesn't help that he was mom's surgeon for her lung cancer. Yea he did a good job, but feels strange to have the same surgeon. Glad that Scott can be there with me for this, ver y upset he can't see me at all after surgery, until he comes to get me when released.
