Cheryl Beenenga Deegan Thank you so much! I'm feeling very well. My post op appointment is next week. I'm 4.5 weeks post op today. I feel so blessed that I'm doing well and feeling better every day.

Cheryl Beenenga Deegan Thank you Susan. Thanks be to God and the amazing Dr. McCarthy and the whole team at Northwestern, my surgery went very well and I'm on the road to recovery. Dr McCarthy was able to repair my mitral valve. I am so thankful.

I had my mitral valve repaired in Dec. 2019 with Dr. McCarthy. I never had any fear of anything going wrong as Dr. McCarthy is top in his field. After surgery you will be on the cardiac floor and all the nurses are on top of everything. You will be in great hands. I only have good things to say about Dr. McCarthy and Northwestern.

Thomas Brusstar Cheryl, Dr. McCarthy repaired my mitral valve in July 2018. It went from severe regurgitation with a “flail” leaflet and several ruptured chordae to zero leakage — and a routine echo this month shows it still does not leak at all. You are right to get it fixed so it doesn’t damage your heart more. Mine unwittingly got very severe, and the enlargement / dilation to my left atrium will never fully recover. They are pros at Northwestern. I went in on a Tuesday morning, was off real pain meds and just on Tylenol by Thursday morning, and was home for dinner Friday. Just sit back and marvel at how your body will recover after this!

Cheryl Beenenga Deegan Kim and Thomas, thank you for your words of encouragement. I'm amazed at the work of Dr. McCarthy and his team. I'm already feeling better. My surgery was on Monday and I am out of the ICU on Tuesday. I am currently in the step down until. The staff here at Northwestern helped to calm my fears every step of the way.
