I am still so incredibly thankful for second chances and while life is very normal, I try not to take that for granted from where I've been. This man is my best friend and soul mate and I could not imagine life without him.

Celebrating 7 Months / Graduate of Rehab
Journal posted on August 8, 2015
Just passed my 7 month mark and graduated from rehab last week. To celebrate I joined a gym and have worked out every day this week and feel amazing. It is so incredible where I have come from and where I am now I can't even describe the feeling of wonder. This has been quite the journey and while I still search for the purpose of it all, I am ever so thankful for everything in life and don't take anything for granted. We are celebrating my husband's 50th birthday this weekend and had dinner last night at the airport in a swanky restaurant then rode in the Orlando Eye which is a 400 ft. fancy ferris wheel. I am so much more brave than I have ever been doing things outside my comfort zone.
A few weeks ago for my weekend we went stayed at a Bed and Breakfast in Mt. Dora and had the best boat ride which is the picture here.
Wishing all my heart brothers and sisters a joyful weekend!

Half way through Stage 2 Rehab and feeling incredible! Only lingering issue is some nerve damage in my tongue, fingertips and toes which also apparently affects hair loss. They prescribed me a strong Vitamin B med that should help with all of that in time. Hope everyone has a great day!
The last roadblock I had to leap was getting my kidneys to improve so I could get off dialysis and I did it! Last week I had the catheter in my chest removed and this week the stitches taken out. So, I am finally back to my normal, or my new normal anyway.
Next step is enrolling in a cardiac rehab program at the hospital. I took a stress test this week and so now just waiting on the final approval. I know many have already completed this stage at 3 months post-op but with all my other issues my progress has been a bit delayed.
I've been back to work for about 5 weeks now and as of last week am up to full time hours.
The best part of this journey has been a jump start to weight loss which has continued. Since checking into the hospital I've lost 56 lbs, 45 in the hospital and 11 since then. So fun to be buying smaller clothes and upgrading my closet.
Today I am enjoying a quiet day at home cleaning house and doing laundry. Just have to say how nice it is to be "normal" again, I've sure missed it!
After spending over 5 weeks in the hospital I am now home and continuing to improve. Pretty sure I had every complication there is encountering cardiac arrest twice in addition to kidney failure and other more minor issues. Turns out I was allergic to heparin which started the spiral out of control. Still doing dialysis three days a week but other than that feeling good and recovering more each day! Thanks so much for your prayers!
Momma is doing much better! She is in rehab now and is building up her strength so she can get back home. We are still waiting on her kidneys to improve some more, but she is turned around from a few weeks ago.

We have had a complete turn around from three days ago. Sorry I haven't posted anything sooner. She is still in ICU but is doing so much better. She got the breathing tube taken out yesterday, and her liver is recovering and her kidneys are also improving. She is in high spirits but is still very drained from everything that is going on. She has already made it known that she wants a trip to Hawaii after this. She definitely deserves it.
Thanks for your continued thoughts and prayers! She has a long way to go, but she is doing much better!
For those of you asking, this is the information I know.
The morning after her surgery, she had short shallow breathing and was looking a bit pale. They moved her back into the CVICU to keep an eye on her. She went into cardiac arrest after getting there. They were able to stabalize her. That's when they realized the liver wasn't properly functioning. They keep running tests and we are hoping for things to steadily get better.
She is still on the breathing tube. Her liver values were slightly better today, but still not where we would like to be. As the doctor put it, we are being "cautiously optimistic". They were concerned there was some swelling in her brain, but the CT scan confirmed she was okay.
My father will be meeting with the doctors in the morning to discuss a course of action, upon the results of her next liver test, which will be at 4 AM.
Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated more than you know, and much needed. This has easily been, the worst week for my entire family. My dad has left the hospital for maybe 10 hours all together, since she got here.
We are hoping for the best. Thanks.
The past few days have been a roller coaster. She is back in the CVICU. She is currently in critical condition, on a breathing tube, dialysis, and having troubles with her liver and kidney. Her numbers are slowly improving, but as you can imagine, it's been incredibly painful to sit by and wait. I wish I could be posting better news, but would like to ask to keep my mother in your thoughts and prayers. I will try to remember to keep this updated. Thanks!
Had a pleasant day with my husband and daughter with a late lunch and a funny movie. All packed now and ready to have some family time and play some board games to keep my mind busy then time for bed, if I can sleep that is? Check in is at 5am and surgery is at 6:45am so at least I'm first on the list tomorrow, ready to be out of the waiting / worry stage and onto recovery. Thanks to everyone for all your encouragement, prayers and sharing your experiences, it has made this part of the journey bearable!
Just finished reading Adam's book and so wanted to take the next step and meet others in waiting or those who are recovering or have recovered to learn all I can. Only found out about the issue three weeks ago so it's been a very eventful holiday season for sure but not in the way I had planned. Surgery is set for Monday and all the pre-op paperwork is done, just waiting now.
