4 months Post-Op!!
Journal posted on February 7, 2015
Today marks 4 months with my new aortic valve!! It's gone so fast! I started lifting yesterday with my husband at my side. I've been doing light exercising but I'm ready to go all in and get back at it! I'll be starting TurboFire at the beginning of the week as well. I have a followup with my cardiologist Feb. 23rd. I have to remind myself here and there that this valve is not permanent and I will have to have it replaced again. Hopefully next time it will be easier.
Wow, 3 months ago today, at this time I was going through surgery. It has flown by! I'm feeling great but it's hard to get out with this ridiculous Iowa weather. It's -4 today, burr! I feel as though it was all a dream, a good dream. My experience was nothing short of amazing! My life is pretty much back to normal. For anyone waiting for surgery, lean on someone, cry if you need to, and Pray for comfort in any anxiety or fear you may be having. For those of you recovering, one day at a time, it gets easier. Day 3 after surgery I said "Can I pleased be placed in a coma?" That's a true story!! It was horrible, but Day 4 was completely opposite and I couldn't wait to get moving down those hallways. It's hard to believe it's already been 3 months since I received a tricuspid aortic valve. Happy Birthday little valve of mine!
Thank you, Adam, for creating a place for us all to feel at home!
"Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything; tell God your needs and don't forget to thank him for his answers. If you do this you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4
I am now 3 weeks and 1 day out from surgery. Since surgery I have been having neck pain like crazy. It starts on my right side just behind my ear and runs through my right shoulder. Has or does anyone else have this pain/discomfort and what have you done to find relief?
I've been told that this pain is from the time I spent in surgery with my arms above my head.?
This was taken 8 days Post surgery. It looks even better today, just 2 days difference!
10 days Post Surgery!!

Today is my new aortic valve's 10 day birthday! I had my follow up today as well. Everything showed as wonderful. My incision is healing great. I'm almost completely off my pain pills. I've done a lot this week from folding laundry to shopping at numerous stores. I feel wonderful!!
I did not expect to feel this great 1 1/2 weeks after surgery. The day of surgery was such a blur. Day 2 was the hardest since I was awake and the pain was really setting in. Day 3 and everyday after has been better and better. I was in the hospital for 5 days. I would have been out on Day 4 but my hemoglobin was low and I ended up getting 1 unit of blood. It's amazing what 1 unit of blood can do! I felt great after that!
Gundersen Lutheran in LaCrosse Wisconsin was amazing!! Dr. Rabindra did the hemi-sternotomy (sp) so my incision is about 3.5-4 inches long. At first my incision really bothered me. As it continues to heal I realize how small it is compared to some. I realize how lucky I am to have had such a great experience. I realize how blessed I am to have my friends and family by my side for support. I also realize how incredibly thankful I am to be healthy and alive and ready to continue on in life with my husband and two little blessings at my side.
Best Wishes to all of the upcoming surgeries and to those in the healing process!
2 days Post Op. I feel great and hoping to go home tomorrow!!

I just finished reading my Heart Valve Surgery Book today. It has great information in it about before, during, and after surgery. I unfortunately was not told about a lot of information in this book by my doctor.
I am still having a lot of anxiety and break downs. I'm so not ready for this.
