My surgery on Monday went well! There was a surgeon name mix-up in the scheduling and my surgeon ended up being Dr. Phillip Rowse (rather than Dr. Arghami), who did robotic mitral valve repair, and he did a fantastic job. The post-op pain these past few days has been a little more difficult than I’d expected, but recovery has gone amazingly smoothly and they’re taking such good care of me here in the progressive care unit. I should be discharged tomorrow!

Robert Miller You look great! No tubes or large incisions. Did you get minimal invasive surgery? Do they still collapse your lungs for minimal invasive surgery? I am asking because I see that breathing device in the lower left of your image which would indicate they did collapse your lungs.

Kathy Ozio Wonderful! Ditto Rose. I didn't like taking pain meds but listen to your body. And especially, rest when your body tells you. I had minimally invasive also. My side would be painful when I overdid it. I'm 5 months out and my side will still be bothersome at times. Take it easy and walk as much as you can in short segments.

It's been a week full of appointments and they went very smoothly. The kids are with their grandparents and my lovely wife Bethany was with me the whole time, which I'm so grateful for. I have a green light to get minimally invasive robotic surgery to repair my mitral valve this Monday. I have God watching over me and two highly skilled surgeons with their team at Mayo, so I don't have anything to worry about. I still struggle with being a bit scared/nervous. Please pray for me on the big day!

Tom Everson Thanks for the update. Take a long phone charger with you and also thank everyone that comes in your room to help you. Everyone heals at a different pace so just concentrate on your recovery and follow ALL the rules. ( limited lifting etc) Lastly walk the hospital halls after the surgery as often as you can . You got this , the Lord will watch over you

The last few months have been crazy, trying to learn more about mitral repair surgery and find a doctor in the US while still living in China. Reading Adam's book and some past webinar ebooks was SO helpful. And now I'm thankful to say that I was finally able to schedule my appointments and operation for the first week of August!

I hope you find one. Take one step at a time, look for second opinion if you are not sure... Make sure you've found the right person. Rest is in God's hands

Thomas Brusstar Mitral repair is easy! Mine progressed to some ruptured chords and was “flail” (meaning flapping in the wind like a screen door with the chain broken). So mine was grossly leaking, so bad it caused coughing and fluid in lungs which they initially thought could be pneumonia. After a successful repair in 2018, it still doesn’t leak at all. Mine was with a sternotomy, but your doctors will tell you what they prefer. Get it fixed asap, because the longer your heart strains (sounds like it’s already enlarged, my left atrium puffed up to 4x normal size) to compensate for the leakage, the worse your heart and lungs will be. Welcome.
