Three weeks post mitral valve repair via sternotomy. I'm feeling good and so glad it's behind me. I went to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore MD and my surgeon was Dr James Gammie. I don't think anything could have gone any better.

Robert Miller When I got my TEE done I told them that I had gag reflexes, which I really do. There were a bunch of trainees there (like half a dozen people) and they knocked me out pretty well which I didn't mind at all. I don't have any experience with Dr. Gammie but make sure you chose a surgeon that has plenty of experience with whatever you need to be done (and not someone that sticks to whatever he/she prefers to do). Also discuss plan B cases.

Deena Z I am somewhat familiar with Dr. Gammie. I had an opinion from him years ago when he was at the the Baltimore Health System. He is now the Director of the Johns Hopkins cardiac surgery dept, right? He has a lot surgical experience, particularly with minimally invasive. He used to prefer to perform surgery earlier rather than later to prevent any stress/damage to your heart. I would ask for his surgical outcome data as with your other choice in New Jersey.

Hi, I'm new here! My doctor heard a heart murmur during a routine visit and I blew it off. After covid, I went back for another visit and she had a look of panic on her face so I thought I'd better see the cardiologist. The first echo was moderate-severe. The second, 10/11, revealed severe mitral valve regurgitation. So here I am waiting for my TEE then surgery.
