Klara Čičić Oh dear Fiona. I am so sorry. I really don't know what is next for you. I guess cardiac surgeon/cardiologist will make a decision based on detailed echocardiogram and some other tests. That is honestly my fear at the moment as I am waiting for a detailed echo... I had a repair 3 months ago but I did a lot of physical strain and lifting and now my regurgitation got worse. How is your "detached" chord manifesting?
Richard Munson They replaced some of mine during mitral valve repair using gore tex.
Klara Čičić Yeah, mine too, Richard, quite a few of them. At least we are waterproof :)

Susan Lynn Fiona - If they determine you need to have your chords repaired, maybe they can do a minimally invasive or robotic entry. I had to have mine repaired, but they were done at the same time as my mitral valve procedure. Please keep us posted.

I have had a pigs mitral valve put in a year ago but have been very breathless ever since. I had a toe done 2 weeks ago a d it transpires that the threads have come away from the valve. I am told I will need open heart surgery again to repair this. Is this something that happens often and why does it happen. Regards Fiona Halliday

Susan Lynn Fiona - I'm sorry to read that you're facing another surgery so soon. I wouldn't say that this happens often as most mitral valves are repaired not replaced. If you have the option to use a different surgeon, you may want to consider him/her. I would be reluctant to use the first one, again. Once you have recovered from surgery and your valve is functioning correctly, your shortness of breath should improve. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Ginny Turner Hi Fiona, it's normal to have breathlessness after valve surgery upon exertion, but it should be improving each week. If you haven't already, I would suggest a call to your cardiologist's office to make sure your lungs are clear. Excess fluid in the lungs after surgery can cause shortness of breath. I am 5 weeks post mitral and tricuspid repair, and my breathing is much better than just a few weeks ago. Best of luck to you!

Patsy Stewart Fiona, sounds like you need to call your cardiologist about your breathing issues. I agree with Ginny. It could be fluid build up around your heart and lungs. Do you weigh yourself each morning? If so, have you noticed an increase? I have to weigh every morning to monitor my fluid buildup. Hope your breathing issues get resolved soon. ~❤️
