Brian Morrison Peter , the reason you had neck and back pain is because they cranked your ribs open , the ribs are connected to your spine with cartridge and it is not designed to be moved in the opposite direction .
Probably the worst part of my recovery was the pain in my back and neck . The surgeon just blew it off but it’s a very real pain , had they told me I should expect this as part of the recovery it would have been much better . I was given some tablets I think they were called Vimovo which were wonderful and released the muscle pain in my back allowing me to get some sleep .
They really don’t place enough emphasis on this issue following open heart surgery but for me it was the worst part of the initial recovery , followed by an infection of the top wire which took weeks and numerous antibiotics to get rid of . But I wish you well for your recovery

Stairs make me smile because before my surgery I had to stop halfway up and a few months after my surgery, my husband said, “look at you running up and down those stairs now!”. I don’t know about “running,” but indeed a huge difference! One step at a time, Peter!

Peter Eglinton Ah, but a little deceptive. Recovering from 2 attempts at blood draws and 3 attempts (2 arms) at IV. Not the most wonderful experience for a needle phobe. That said, the rest of day went smoothly - and it's done. Onward!

Civita Fahey HI Peter.. I saw Dr. Sundt for a second opinion on my OHS. I liked him a lot. he was really great with answering questions. I ended up having my surgery at the Brigham ( insurance reasons) but I thought Dr. Sundt would definitely be a great choice. Best of luck.
