I was able to walk for my masters of nursing graduation. Boy was I surprised at how tired I got! I go back to work (the desk part of my job) next Thursday - I’m glad I’ll be working from home, I might need a little nap at lunchtime!

Cheryl Mann Yes Nancy - I highly recommend- it’s just 2 cheap pillows from Target - I did not have a sternotomy incision, but the extra support for my arms kept the “car jiggles” from bothering me. I even slept some on the way home.
And yes -Deena - I had my coffee, water where I could reach it. I also kept my incentive spirometer (breathing exercise) in my lap so I wouldn’t forget. My drive was 3 hours long , so my surgeon wanted me to stop to walk one time too.

I had MV repair surgery 4/19/21 and was advised to sit on the back seat, because if I'm sitting on the front and --God forbid-- I'm involved in an accident and the front-seat airbags are activated, they may impact on my incisions. I wanted to share this with you in case you find it useful. :)

Cheryl Mann Scott and Jill - they offered me a nerve block - basically they numb the nerves to the surgical area - it is done when you are already unconscious and it lasts up to a day or 2 - you end up more comfortable and need less pain meds. I found that pain meds did not agree with me - I am managing my pain w plain Tylenol and an ice pack (I did get a few doses of IV Toradol the first couple days - it’s a little like IV Motrin/ibuprofen).
