Sara Colosimo Thank goodness it has! I don’t know what was going on but it came at the exact same time every night for about a week. Then, for about four nights in a row, I would wake up with night sweats! Maybe it’s all that junk leaving my body from anesthesia. Either way, I’m glad I’m feeling better. Thanks for asking!

Hi Sara,
It is good to read your progress. I have the same "issues" but no surgery yet so it is good to read what to expect and that, for the most part, progress is good. I just wanted to ask a question about valve choice. I am still struggling with what to go with and was curious what your choice was (if you don't mind saying).
Thanks,
Steve

Sara Colosimo Hi Steve! Hang in there. Issues and dealing with them and making decisions is all part of the struggle. Because I am on the younger side of this, 35 years old, and my husband and I are not sure that we want to be done having kids (we have one beautiful daughter), I decided to go the tissue route. The scary thing is is that I will have to have another replacement in my lifetime, if not more than one. I am hopeful though that technology will advance and a less invasive surgery can take place when that time comes. Also, being on Coumadin at a young age worried me when it came to the mechanical valve. Although a mechanical valve could possibly have lasted me the rest of my life. Weigh your options and know that whatever decision you make will be the right one. Believe me, I went back-and-forth for sometime

Hi Sara, Humongous Congratulations (!!!) on your wonderful recovery. You look great. But I'm very surprised that they took off your incision bandage only two or three days after your operation. I had mine on for about two weeks. They kept checking, of course, to make sure there was no infection. And yes, it did itch, but I knew that was a sign it was healing. Every good wish, Artie.

Hi Sara, really good to see your scar healing well. Yes, I too had a reaction to the plaster, the nurse had to remove it. I used a simple fragrance free moisturiser on the skin, massaging the area very gently, avoiding the scar. The rash disappeared within 5 days leaving the skin very smooth and normal.
Best wishes Rosie :)

Hi Sara, your surgery is on my granddaughter's birthday so it will be easy to remember you in my prayers that day. Just remember it's your mind that controls the thoughts that cause your body to be at it's best when you go to surgery. Love yourself enough to talk to your body about how much faster you will heal if you relax and keep good natural chemicals flowing through your body. What's better using your mind to be anxious or using your thoughts to give yourself the best chance of an easy surgery for the doctors and peace of mind and comfort when you wake up? Lots of studies show that people who believe they control the calm chemicals during surgery have much better results. So, you can do it! Heck, if you haven't run away from home after all this waiting, what's a little surgery?

Hey Sara. I’m a 38 year old mother of 3 children ages 9, 7, and 3. I had OHS 4 weeks ago for the same repairs you are about to have. I have found deep peace in essential oils for relaxation. Somehow these oils kept finding there way to me right before surgery as gifts. My little ones really enjoyed them and became our thing. We still use them now and enjoy rubbing our feet down with them. I hope this is something that might help.
Sara Colosimo Thank you! I’m a huge fan of essential oils! Hope your recovery is going great!

Sara, it will be my 3 month post op anniversary the day you have your surgery. I also had a Bicuspid Valve and aneurysm repaired. I am 61 and only had know about the Bicuspid valve for only 3 years. I have 2 daughters and never knew I had an issue while I was pregnant with them. They Valve I had put in is the new fda approved one called the Edwards INSPIRIS RESILIA. I would recommend researching it to see if it’s one that might be a good fit for you. I remember that feeling of seeing my picture on the upcoming surgeries...pretty scary and unreal at the same time! I think what really helped me was that I wasn’t going to let my mind wonder to bad thoughts, and also keeping busy... which I’m sure you already are with your family, I also focused on the future, and what that would mean for me. I’m on the other side, and you will be soon too looking forward to your future. God’s blessings for your surgery and a speedy recovery! You should bounce back great with being younger. If you have any questions about the valve I choose, please feel free to ask😉
Sara Colosimo Thank you!!!! I appreciate you reaching out!

Hi Sara, Sweetie. It will all go well. There are lots of soothing things on YouTube, ocean sounds, rain forest, guided relaxation. I would listen twice a day (falling asleep at night to favorites). They helped tremendously. I had life threatening emergency surgery when my little ones were 2 and 6. All went well and they are a grown scientist and medical therapist. See, life can be good. Your little girl will be fine and you will be well and strong to watch her grow up. These surgeries are done hundreds of times a week and hundreds of times a week people are wheeled out the hospital door to their happy families. The day will come when you are wheeled out into the sunshine and make that wonderful trip home. The doctors are amazing and God will take care of the rest. Keep thinking about what you will do after you recover, that's where your life will be. Take care.
