Two months ago I went to my Dr. for physical. He had reason to send me for an
echocardiogram and the wearing of a 24 hour heart monitor. They both showed
that I have Atrial fibrillation and a leaking valve. I was sent to a Cardiologist. He
sent me to he Coumadin clinic in Sarasota, and for the past 6 weeks they have
been checking my INR weekly. I started at 1.1 and now at 3.0. I go back tomorrow
for check up. They have me on 4 mg Coumadin 5 days and 1/2 for 2 days. It
may change tomorrow depending on my reading.
Now, My guestion is: The Cardiologist recommended that I have a (TEE)
procedure done (transesophageal echocardiogram .) And, at the same
time to also shock my heart back into rythum. I have been taking the Coumadin
for nearly 6 weeks. What are the risk, and is it something I really need to do.
All I am asking is just your opinion, and appreciate anything you would like to tell me.
I am 72 years old, don’t smoke, don’t drink, and my weight is 158 and I am 5’6″
tall and feel fantastic. I get a little short winded sometime, but over all good health.
I forgot to mention that I am also in a group research study for Coumadin, where they
tell what you are supposed to do with Coumadion amounts. I was started on 5 mg by the Dr. but then changed to 4 by the test results from research. This research is being done at the clinic as well. Was approved by Medicare, so they told me.
    Thank you very much,
