Feeling a little out of sorts today - a couple of significant things happening today. Had my first dose of COVID vax today and the first time I’m going to be at home on my own!
Would love to hear how others have dealt with either of these “events” in their journey.
I’m having a meltdown day today - anxious about both.
The biggest thing I have noticed in the is whole crazy journey is the significant loss of fitness and the level of fatigue that has been a huge result for me after my surgery. I wasn’t super fit before hand but I could easily walk the dogs for 50 minutes (about 4km). Post surgery I was struggling to walk 10 steps before my knees and quads gave out. Fitness levels is a big goal for rehab with addressing the fatigue. While it is coming back it was lost a lot quicker than it’s coming back! 😖
Thank goodness for technology! I was able to keep in touch with family all over the world using different apps while in lockdown and no visitors allowed! It’s been difficult but technology was my saviour (didn’t think I would ever hear myself say that
Day 5 post surgery wound. A Comfeel dressing (that’s the wrinkly look) over the top of a cut with no external stitches.
4 weeks post op

Here I am in full lockdown in Sydney Australia and it is so difficult to have the confidence to go out beyond my backyard. Excursions are doctor appointments and cardiac rehab for the next 6 weeks - that’s all. If it can’t be delivered we do without!
All is fine post op - a low blood pressure which is gradually rising and ejection fraction not as high as cardiologist would like it is difficult some days to be confident that all is going well 4 weeks post surgery (those blues are coming and going). Doctors tell me that they are confident that when things settle down these numbers will rise.
Biggest bug bear - ladies will understand - finding a good bra that will support me enough! I have spent a lot of money trying to find THE one! Not successful yet - best thing I did was to put a tight top over the bra that was recommended. It’s better. Also really have sensitivity on my chest. Trying to de-sensitise with different types of fabric. Having said all this I feel okay (sleep still haphazard some days).
I’m struggling to find a comfy spot to sleep. Have a recliner and wedge pillow. Is there a pillow that people have found helpful?

Such a relief to know that my cardiologist and surgeon are onto this. Seems a though everything is heading in the right direction (blood level). How much it is a relief. Here in Australia sometimes you don’t get the opportunity to strike that relationship with a surgeon (as in my case) but I am glad that I was lucky enough to know someone who knew him well as a colleague and a person. His reputation precedes him many times over. I’m glad I said something. For future people having the major surgery please ask the tiniest question as many times as you need to understand it! Thank you for all the support from this group. I’m glad I stumbled across it 😁
Having heart palpitations now but cardiologist tells me that all is good that it is something that occurs. he says I had a big surgery and things are looking good. Not going home for at least another 3 days.
This dressing supposed to allow for quicker healing

Thank you for the welcome. Even though I am in Australia, I'm sure the feelings of going through this surgery are not unique to where we live. My surgery is on 29/6/2021 and it all seems a little surreal - still. But I am sure I will get through it all with all the love and support of family and friends and now this community of like-minded people.
