About Me

After several years of monitoring the valves' functioning, I was directed to having repair surgery done. My choice was to have this while I am healthy and strong rather than to wait for symptoms to appear. There is a history of heart valve problems with my mother and after she passed away in 2017 we siblings became pro-active and had a heart check. I was the lucky one who had all the problems. No rheumatic fever or other such possible causes and, as such, it is suggested that I was simply "born with it". Next week I will definitely have mitral valve repair/replacement (depending on what the surgeon is able to do) but there is a question mark around whether anything will be done to the aortic valve as it is in a mild state of regurgitation. A little scared about it all but having the opportunity to learn about what is happening and going to happen has allowed me and my family to prepare for the upcoming surgery.
