I’m a 57 year old mother of 3, soon to be grandmother. I live in Idaho and I work full time as a nurse at our local health department. I was shocked to be diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse with severe regurgitation on June 13th 2026. Have never had a heart murmur, but when I saw a new provider in April she heard it and sent me to cardiology to get it checked out. I honestly thought it would be benign and I would go on my way. I will never forget the shock of hearing the words, “we fix this problem with heart surgery.” At first I thought I was asymptomatic, but looking back there have been a lot of things I just never considered would be a heart problem. I am scheduled to have minimally invasive robotic repair of my mitral valve on October 5th at the Cleveland Clinic. I’m curious to read about other people’s stories and advice.
