How important is it to have someone help with your recovery after surgery? My surgery is scheduled in two days and the person who is suppose to help after surgery had foot surgery, yesterday. So, he will be using crutches for the next five weeks with no weight allowed on... Read more.
It depends on a lot of things. I didn't have complications so my husband went back to work on day 10 post op and I was able to care for myself and our 4 year old daughter while he was gone. Remember the first 5 or more days will be... Read more.
Please do not cancel your surgery. I'm sure things will work themselves out. The biggest issues are making sure you can manage your medicine, walk (they will be short at first), and breathing exercises. A log book is very helpful to record your vitals and meds. Best wishes.
Totally agree with Elaine...my wife had major dental surgery a few weeks before my AVR & she had to be cognizant of her own recovery. Everything worked out well. Just follow the doctor's orders and your own instincts - all will be well! Onward & Upward!

Thank You for all the responses:) I called the surgeon's office to see what I should do, and decided to continue with the surgery, on Friday.
The hardest thing that you will have to do is cook, so get a bunch of microwave dinners, lunch meat, bread, and plenty of drinks. You won't have any strength in your arms so just think about that. Other than that you will be laying down and sleeping a lot.
Agree with the above. If you prepare you should do great. That means prepared meals. Stuff easy to reach. The biggest thing for you might be a driver to pick up meds or drive you to future appointments. Drn
I agree with everyone! Remember you can't carry more than 5 pounds. Get some friends to assist you with food and any meds. Sometimes you don't know what to expect for example any unforeseen emergency at night Etc. Glad you are doing the surgery!
