So as many of you know, I had open heart surgery last month. I am doing great now, but it was a very rough month. What you don't know, is Monica and I both didn't work for over a month. Once I was home from surgery, I had a major complication. I had severe sciatic nerve pain which caused me t...

I made it through surgery with out any problems. I ended up having a Bentall Procedure and it went great. I had surgery on a Tues. and got out on Sunday. I was bound and determined to recovery in less then 2 weeks. Monday when I got up I experienced the worst pain I have every felt. Long story sort, my pelvis got knocked out of alignment and was crushing my sciatic nerve. It kept me completely laid up for 3 weeks. Once I started physical therapy it took me no time to get back to normal. My surgery was 5/3 and I returned to work on 6/6. I feel better now then how I felt last summer. The hardest thing I have experienced is not picking up my 1 and 2 year olds. Everyone was right about the walking as much as you can post surgery. I really haven't had any problems with my heart or chest since surgery. I also think I would have made it back to work in 2 weeks if it wasn't for my pelvis.

So I got the results back from my CTA scan. My entire root aorta is an aneurysm. I will be having open heart surgery tomorrow. Although this is not the news I wanted, Im glad they found it out now and not later. So hopefully this time tomorrow I'll have a new root aorta and a mechanical valve in place of my aortic valve.

Cathleen Weed Hi Barry...bicuspid aortic valves can cause aneurysms because of the years of extra pressure on that area..also genetic connective tissue disorders that make the artery walls weaker. Those are two main causes but there are others. I ended up with a 6cm ascending aortic aneurysm that required a dacron graft all the way through the arch. I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve.
