My appointment with the cardiology surgeons in Tallahassee, FL is scheduled for 2/22. In the meantime I have been doing some research on other physicians and hospitals. If I have the aortic valve replacement in Tallahassee, I am only an hour from home. I have been looking into Advent Hosptal inn Orlando, FL and Princeton Baptist in Birmingham, AL. Either of these hospitals is about 6 hours away, but seem to do a high volume of valve replacements. I want the very best outcome ! Who doesn't ? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

As far as surgeons, Dr. Lamelas, is a pioneer in minimum-invasive and just moved back to Miami. He is considered one of the best for aortic replacement.

Tammy Pilcher Hi Pamela, I live in Freeport, FL and had my AVR at Florida Hospital Orlando (now Advent) with Dr. Kevin Accola. Our drive was 7 hours and I did fine. I am over 4 years post op and doing great. Dr. Accola and his team are wonderful! You can read more about my experience in my journal. I will keep you in my prayers for the same great outcome! Dianne A Dr Accola is doing my mitral valve repair on Feb 19. He did my friends Aortic Valve this past summer, with a tissue valve that can be replaced in the future if needed with a valve in valve repair.
