Hi, i had my mitral valve replaced in April 2017! It is now leaking and i was just hospitalized with heart failure. Am I looking at another open heart surgery?

There are surgeons that specialize in revalve surgery. Someone here knows the names i am sure.

It depends on a lot of different things. Sometimes heart failure can be managed with medications and dietary restrictions. Have you received a second opinion from a different doctor?

So sorry to hear that, but I guess only a cardiac surgeon can say. And it probably depends on how minimal the leakage is.

That depends on the amount of leakage. Severe leakage could be the cause of heart failure and a bunch of other things. So get an echo done. Possibly even a TEE. Also look at the ejection rate. Depending on the result, you might need surgery. Otherwise, you might be put... Read more.

Thanks everyone! I saw my cardiologist yesterday and reviewed eco. MR is sever and causing pulmonary hypertension. Next week i will have TEE to get a better look. But he thinks I need to have it replaced said that he had a surgon that had been doing the trans catheter... Read more.

Hi everyone, i just received some bad news! My new mitral valve that was placed in March of 2016 is not working correctly. I have a apt with the surgeon after Christmas to learn of my options. Anyone had to have their valve replaced so soon! I am freezing out!!!!

Hi Norine, I had a mitral valve replaced with a pig valve and it calcified and tore and I had to have it replaced with a prosthetic valve - that was over thirty years ago. You will be fine.

just passed the 7 month mark and feeling great. Energy is returned and I can now walk 5 miles with ease. I had a elevation of my liver enzymes and was taken off all statins for two months. Liver is back to normal but LDL cholesterol is 150. Now on... Read more.
