Hi folksā¦American Heart Association recommends 25g for women and 37g for men of sugar in diet. Is this just added sugars or including fruit? Trying to be healthy and kind to my new rebuilt heart. š

Hey Michael. As far as I know a top of 6 level scoop small spoon a day. In theory, you can take fruits in addition, because these don't count as sugar as they are mixtured with fibers. Anyway I think 6 spoon are too too muchšš
I think sugar in fruits counts as sugar, but then my fruity popsicle a day keeps the doctor away might make me unqualified.
I believe those guidelines are for added sugar. Whole fruit has fiber in it that slows the digestion thus stopping the blood sugar spikes caused by added plain sugar.
The nurse is in the house. I just had a sabrina strawberry daydream drink at dunkin and i may be on a sugar high. Does strawberry qualify as a fruit?

I found those numbers on their website. They say you should consume "no more than" 36 or 25 grams of added sugar. I'm guessing that zero added sugar is simply unrealistic, that's what I remember.
The website says the small Sabrina has 29 gms of added sugar!! The large has even moreā¦
I always get the medium, so i must be ok.
