You almost answered your own question at the end but i was 79 and had minimally invasive mitral repair with maze. It took many months before i felt 100%. I was also in pretty good shape prior to the surgery. Just do what you are told by the doctors and... Read more.

There is an excellent article on the Cleveland clinic web page on the advantages and disadvantages of robotic surgery in general. More advantages i would say. There is a doctor behind the joystick however. Always get a second opinion and pick a doctor that does a high number of your... Read more.

Marvin, do you review his metrics? Meaning how many MV repairs he does annually and the outcomes of such? Dont hesitate to ask. It’s your body and life.

Looked up your doctor. He is a Mitral Foundation recommended surgeon. That’s very good. I think you might mean less than one percent mortality, vs morbidity? Either way, check, good! With robotic surgery, i would ask for all stats, such as rehospitalizations, ER visits, etc, but I lean on the... Read more.

Robotic/through the ribs was not an option for me, given the severe calcification on my MV. - creates a high- risk surgery. I get your not wanting your sternum to be “touched”. - not as painful as one would think, but a much longer healing time. Dr Adams usually does... Read more.

Thank you. You will be there sometime soon too:). It’s such a foreign territory that it is hard to wrap your head around it all. And…Keep your protein levels up in the meantime, helps post-surgery.

I was in cardiac rehab six weeks after surgery. Excellent experience, because i could push myself on the trend mill and stationary bike, while being all hooked up to BP, etc, halter. I felt 80 percent at 3 months. You probably will do better than that. One potential longer- term... Read more.

It’s in the very minority of cases, usually temp, but I dont have the stats. I mentioned it to you not to make you more nervous, but to discuss with the surgeon and keep him on his toes:)

I'm just overall nervous about the procedure. It's good hearing about the potential complications- so they're not unexpected if they occur. I don't remember who, but someone posted 2 graphs- the patient expectation, which shows a linear arrow going up,& then the real outcome which shows outcomes going sideways, up... Read more.
