My hospital stay was a rocky road. Ended up staying 14 days! I had anticipated 5-7.
Feeling pretty good now. Walking 5+ miles a day with some days reaching over 8 miles. Feels like each day I can do some new thing I couldn’t do the week before.
I finally got up the nerve to look at my heart picture the surgeon took. YIKES. not everyone can say they have seen their own heart!
My Right Ventrical was a bit lazy post-op so I ended up on Dopamine balanced with Blood Pressure meds. When they took me of Dopamine my BP dropped really low and kicked my a$$ for a few days. They ended up deciding to wean me off Dopamine very slowly moving forward over the course of several days. Best as I can tell the medication balancing act is part art and part science.
Marie Myers It is the art and practice of medicine, for sure…Everyone can react differently…

J Alexander Lassally Mark - sounds rough. Was not familiar with the dopamine regime post surgery. How happy were you with UW staff and competence during stay? I am going to them now for post surgery follow up even though I did not have the surgery there. Best of luck...

Mark Morel The IC nurses were spectacular and owe them so much gratitude. The surgical team seemed very competent. So far my follow up appointments have been fine. A PA named Melissa was very nice if you run into her.
William Trankle I got photos from my surgeries, and I find them fascinating. Glad you're kicking butt.

Deena Z Mark, Thanks for the follow-up to my earlier question. Your “event” was closely linked to the immediate post-surgery recuperation. Doesn't seem like it will be a chronic problem going forward. That’s really good news!
That said, I know it is still a recent memory and the PTSD from it all can linger, all at the time while you are feeling that much better. I often think we are the lucky ones; we had a health problem that could be seen and fixed. I focus on that a lot. Take care.
