thank you for this opportunity to post--I am 74 years old and 28 years ago at John Hopkins in Baltimore I had my aortic valve and arch replaced due to a large aneurism . I had a medical St. Jude valve put it and for the last 28 years Have been blessed everything was great--however scar tissue and stenosis has caused the need for a redo--I am going with Dr. Roselli and his awesome team at Cleveland Clinic on 3 January 2023--concerned because this is a redo--I am on blood thinner that will have to be bridged and have had a slow irregular heart beat for the last 28 years, usually not one to worry but this has me very anxious because of the complication of a redo---they want to put in pace maker and use a cow tissue valve--any advise or suggestion--thank you--Larry Butterini

Patsy Stewart Welcome, Lawerence! My advice would be to try to curb your anxiety and don’t let it overwhelm you. Put your trust in the one who has had you in His hands all of your life. The surgeons in our day are a lot more advanced than they used to be. Ask all the questions and do your research from reliable sources. I.e. this site. I wish you strength, hope and a peace to surround you on this new heart journey.~❤️

Greg Lewis I had an irregular rhythm a lot, and it did cause some more heart failure, so probably good your getting a pacemaker now. And, by the way, ...28 yrs on your valve!! Very nice!! Just goes to show that you just never know how things will go! They tell you, this valve will last this long, and that valve never needs replacing, and blah blah blah...you never know. Its all best educated guessing. I have already heard quite varying times on this forum. Including mechanical valve issues. So who knows. I would like to know what kinds of things they think extend a valves life, though. That would be interesting. But...28 yrs 🫡👍👍👍
