My husband had AVR April 2015. He has been experiencing side effects of this beta blocker. He didn't have high blood pressure before his first a fib which led them to discover a genetic problem with his valve. Can't he ever get off this med? He is dizzy, lightheaded and... Read more.

I was on metroprolol for a while. My cardiologist switched me to bystolic which is in the same class. The side effects are gone but bystolic costs more
After my MV repair my cardiologist switched me from Metoprolol (200mg 2X daily pre-surgery) to Carvedilol (12.5 twice daily)l, a different beta blocker. It works great and I've had no side effects.
He is completely off the beta blocker now for one week. But is experiencing stomach bloating every time he eats. We wonder if that metroprolol takes a while to leave the system.
