Amy Steele  As Vanessa said, it's very common. 6 months after aortic valve replacement, I'm still having atrial flutter. My doctor is keeping it under control with Metoprolol.

Steve Farthing  Glad to hear he is on the other side. Make sure they know about the pain level at the hospital because they might possibly have additional meds to offer for that.

  Hi Judy , Yes your probably at that point where your just overwhelming yourself. We all seem to get there..."Dr. Google" can tend to make you question any and everything. If you will also research how many "repairs" to the Mitral Valve need re operations then that tips the scale in the other direction as well. There is plus and minus , pros and cons , good and bad in all of this stuff. Don't let yourself wander around in the field of endless doubt for too long, it's not productive and it will drive you nuts....Trust Your Surgeon / Staff to get you guys through this. Take It from a guy who knows you CAN overload yourself and second guess everything if your trying hard enough. I wish you and your husband all the best. Kathy Blank  Judy- there are so many stories of successful MV Replacements! Trust your surgeon- trust God and help your husband by being strong your faith that he will have a successful replacement and be restored to great health. Surround him with positive healing energy!!! Keep us ALL posted!!!

Michael Hill  Hello Judy, I am 4 weeks out of Mitral Valve Replacement surgery. Had a bovine valve placed. All is well and getting stronger each day. My thoughts and prayers will be a successful surgery for your husband!

Sue Sanchez Grela  Judy, what I cherish about this site is that not only am I am learning through others, I am able to prepare myself. Knowing we are all different I don't stress out reading about others' complications, but am as prepared as I can possibly be. I am staying focused on my recovery after my March 1 surgery. Our surgeries are in God's and our surgical teams hands so all I can do is have faith! You and your husband are in my prayers!

Judy Midas  Thank you all! I appreciate all your kind words. We ordered the patients guide to heart valve surgery and it arrived Saturday. We can't put it down. Last week my husband had his pre op tests and his class. The class was excellent. It really prepared us - both as patient and caretakers for what's ahead.

Bob Jensen  Judy. I understand how you feel and the anxious and if you have. Please be assured that these surgeries are done every day and the outcomes are unbelievably positive your husband will be doing incredibly well after the surgery and he'll be a new man trust your surgeons and put this all in God's hands the outcome will be incredibly great.

Steve Farthing  Hi Judy - You may have already done this, but you can always ask the doc if the mitral valve can be repaired instead.

Lilly Black  My husband was a total wreck for me too. I was the one holding it together. Tom will do fine! most of us do but I can understand how you feel. My husband and I talked about it in depth after my surgery when he saw how well I was doing. Good luck with everything. I hope you find some peace as you share your feelings on this site.

Judy Midas  Thank you all for the words of encouragement. Cath is scheduled for Wednesday, along with a TEE. If anyone out there can offer up a prayer it will be greatly appreciated.
