Susan Lynn Cynthia - I was on a small dose after surgery and was able to discontinue it in the months that followed. It made me tired and dizzy. Unfortunately, I developed PACs about two years after surgery and my cardiologist offered the extended release metoprolol succinate as one of my options. I take 100 mg/day and I experienced many of the common side effects when I started it, again, but they seemed to dissipate over time. I'd love to get off of it, but I would only need to replace it with another med. Ask your cardiologist if you need to continue - sometimes I think they forget to take heart patients off meds after surgery. There are heart remodeling benefits with metoprolol, however, I think that is only medically proven for the year following surgery. Good luck!
Cynthia Laurence Thank you for your comments. Sometimes you feel that you're the only one with these issues.

Richard Munson I sometimes wonder about the side effects these meds have when they interact with each other. Recently dropped eliquis after 2 years of no a fib but my little unsteady bouts never went away. I stayed on metropolol due to my aortic anurysm. Who knows what the 2-3 other meds i take bring to the table. They all have their list of side effects. Just recently amoxicillin was prescribed before a tooth extraction. While reading the drug interactions i found it can cause serious side effects with my gout med to reduce uric acid. I called and they switched. Pays to read.

Cynthia Laurence We rely on our doctors, but we also know our bodies. When they say you should be feeling better and you don't, it leads you to questions. Time for another serious discussion with my cardiologist.
Grace Mason 👍 sounds like a great idea for discussion

Daniel Green Could it be the meds? I have had issues with Beta Blockers in the past. I was put back on beta blocks following my surgery and I understand why. But the bottom line is I need to get off them and back on my Ace inhibitors at some point.

Susan Lynn I was exhausted for months! I felt 95% healed in the first two weeks, but the fatigue really lingered. They say it can take a full year to recover from OHS. The afternoon power nap saved me! Give it a try if your schedule permits.

Rose Madura In comparison to me, you are doing great at 11 weeks. I mostly likely was back in the hospital for a readmission. Everyone has a different recovery yet we are all similar. Have a good discussion with your doctor and take Susan's advice of a nap!

Heather Kelly Try not to worry as we all progress at different times. I was tired for a while and just kept walking like they said and taking naps in the afternoons until one day I finally just didn’t. I am almost at a year and feeling better all the time. I will tell ya I still enjoy a little nap when I can sneek one in. Keep us posted. God bless

Greg Lewis Relax Cynthia! It could take a long while, or a short while. Every person is different. Every surgery is different. Don't try to rush it. It will take the time it needs to. Do the exercises you need to, and see how it goes.I had a particularly rough surgery, and have been recovering a long time. They tell me it could take 3 years. So..I am learning some patience, among many other things. Be happy! Take a chill pill ( like I mean, with the other meds ) ..lol 😎

Patsy Stewart The fatigue can be unreal, and everyone's body recovers at different speeds. Keep doing what you can.... not what you expect you should be doing. Take those walks sprinkled with afternoon naps, and try to shut your eyes to the things that you think needs to be done. Just like when you're rockin' babies... those cobwebs can wait!~❤️
