About Me (In My Own Words)
I was a 65 year old female in reasonably good health -- or so I thought...
I was told I had a heart murmur most of my life. No one ever explained what that meant. And, I didn't ask. I've been with my PCP for about 6 years. On my visit in July 2022, he said my murmur was more pronounced and wanted a cardiac workup. I had an ECHO and saw a cardiologist. Much to my surprise, I was told I had aortic regurgitation (bicuspid Valve) and stenosis. As a bonus, I had an aortic aneurysm too! Ok, so what does that mean --- Surgery!
Ordered a CATH which confirmed the diagnosis. Met with a surgical team to explain options. This was the best process. Honest exchange with doctors. Really understood what was going on and my options. Able to make a more informed decision.
Opted for valve replacement surgery and aortic aneurysm resection. Did not expect to end my year with open heart surgery!
